Champions League Games 1/2 November '22

Good to see Sky putting Liverpool top of their group - even though they finished second… gotta keep the Dipper’s viewers happy!
The BBC had they beat the La Liga leaders.
Just the usual shocking “journalism” you now expect from Sky and esp BBC

Having looked at the new Champions League format coming season after next, I'm sorry to say that I kind of love it.

No guarantee it will work this way in reality but the idea of playing ten teams from vastly different leagues sounds better to me than the current structure. There are far too many meaningless matches in GW5 and 6 of the group stages every year, this solves that. And if, say, PSG draw a much weaker team from somewhere like Israel, they're not basically guaranteed six points under the new structure.

Only downside is the wildcard spots.

we'll just end up paying for more shit games

There'll be fewer shit games. Take this season for example - you can argue that none of the last three group games really mattered. Dortmund away was one of very few City matches I've seen that made me actually feel sorry for the people who had paid to be in the stadium - nobody really wanted to score.

Getting a table right surely isn't that difficult

I think it will be far more interesting, and will stop teams scraping through groups while not playing well. I think, thinking spurs this year here

Sky can put them wherever they want, they're playing a group winner next round and away from home second leg. Of course we all know they'll get Porto.

So 10 games in all in the group stages 5 home 5 away and against different teams each time. Could potentially put a bit more jeopardy in the group stages for the more established teams.
