Champions League Games | Quarter-Finals | 8/9/15/16 April '25

Back in those days it was just one club in the competition and the media got right behind them. There was no internet and trolls spouting nonsense 24/7. The scousers started to turn the tide regarding the love in with their arrogance, robbing and general feral behaviour everywhere they travelled, culminating in the Heysel tragedy. Anybody who encountered them working on the cross channel ferries will tell you what utter scumbags they were.
Then the competition was extended to four clubs, the rivalry intensified and social.media happened.
Without sounding like Uncle Albert from Only Fools and Horses but back in the late 60's people always wanted English clubs to do well in Europe, apart from dirty Leeds, it definitely changed after Heysel.

Leeds weren't popular due to their gamesmanship and fans. By the time Heysel happened everybody was already sick and tired of the scouseers as well.

Herself was the final straw.

Of course, not just for them but for all the hooligans who had become out of control. Ironically the foreign fans who often bore the brunt of that hooliganism, particularly when England played, then started to copy it. As the UK clamped down and on the whole behaviour changed in this country their bad behaviour escalated.

I would definitely get behind teams like Wolves, Palace, Forrest etc. over any foreign team.
villa and arsenal can fuck off.

I gave this post a like on instinct, but I took it back. There isn't another team anywhere that I'd get behind these days. Every one of them has tried to fuck us over or slagged us off at some point.

Balls to the lot of them.

When was the last time you played Real Madrid in the Bernabeu, in the 2nd leg of a Champions League quarter final?

Arsenal fans and over confidence never ends well.
We have a strange record against Real in so far as they've never scored against us in European competition. Admittedly the games we've played have been few and far between.

The last time we played at the Bernebeu we won 1-0 with a certain Thierry Henry scoring the winner. It's been a good few years since then and my memory is hazy but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he was a better striker than Mikel Merino so not too much to read into it.

I understand Real can turn it on but also that defensive line was so terrible last week against a half fit Saka with Martinelli running at them on the other side so I think we'll get chances (particularly with Saka getting more minutes in the 2nd half v Brentford and recovering match fitness) and if we stick one away that's probably too much for Real to overcome.

I'll only start worrying once Gary Neville says we are going to win the Champions League - that will be the sign to bet the mortgage on Arsenal not winning it.

Famous last words lol.

Last time we conceded 3 goals or more in a game was a few years ago at the Etihad against a treble winning City side so whilst you never say never I don't think this rather underwhelming Madrid side is going to be the team to do it. But in football you never know.
I know you can get past Madrid as frankly they are a disjointed bunch. But Arsenal have a habit of shooting themselves in the foot with their negativity at times.

I thing you will make it to the final but will have to overcome Inter Milan. The Italians will out-shithouse you and it will be a dire match.

The days when English supporters supported English clubs are long gone. Too much jealousy and vitriol.
When the media turned us into the pantomime villain, and pretty much every fanbase in the country sided with them and called us cheats, how do you expect us to react? For us all to hope they do well, earn loads of performance related income, and possibly win the biggest club competition in European football??

Arrogant little shit Lewis Kelly (I know that's not his name) acts like a **** and takes the piss.
Oh, wouldn't it be nice for him to win the Champs League, that'll really ground him!

Nah, fuck 'em!

I'd cheer for Newcastle in Europe, probably Forest too, but that's about it.

Good to have confidence. I'll be very interested in the refereeing and VAR performance tonight.

You'll score at least one tonight and that'll get you through IMHO,knock these entitled cunts out please?

BBC: 'La Remontada?' Is this a comeback too far for Madrid?

I don't like Arsenal, they showed how petty they were with all the haaland shit - but the British media obsession with Madrid is a joke. The sooner they're knocked out the better.

Don’t have a problem with the arse winning it as a team but do have a problem with some of their players winning it,
We know who they are.

just listening to villa talk yep great game and result last night but now just being part of competition and teams they beat along way is as good or better than winning it.

Madrid are really all talk these days. I know they've assembled a team of impressive individuals on paper but it's not reflected what's happening on the pitch.

It's all very odd.

Well, if this season's game at The Etihad is owt to go by then the Arse are only a wafer behind Inter in the shithousery department.
