For some reason, before we knew there was a cockup, I was watching the guy picking the balls and he looked lost at one point after picking the first three teams then seemingly forgetting which other balls he needed from the other pots. I think they need to illuminate the pots needed and remove the pot completely when the team has been drawn or something like that.

On a practical level, there’s actually no need to do the draw again. There were too many balls in for Villarreal (7 not 5) but everyone they could play was in that pot. As for Atletico, there were the requisite number of balls in there, it’s just that Liverpool were in and not Utd. As the first ball drawn was a team they could play, it made no difference, so it really doesn’t need to be done again .
