I’m really worried about facing Liverpool in the Semi Finals. They’re a really good European side and have great success in the competition.

After the Atletico result has been overturned due to the mental torture the Dippers fans have suffered because of that fateful "european night under the lights" in March, your wish will come true.

The 2nd leg against the Tebas's team should be after the CAS result , if we do lose the appeal we will need no further motivation to stuff Real and go on and win the competition , the ultimate embarrasment for UEFA if we win it , the only European Cup/ Champions league winners unable to defend the trophy .
Makes you wonder what FIFA would do about the World Club Champions at the end of the year , would we be allowed to play ?

Makes you wonder what FIFA would do about the World Club Champions at the end of the year , would we be allowed to play ?

UEFA will have the final say which club represents them , Liverpool are european royalty , so i will go for them.

If (and we won't be) we are CL winners, then I'm sure FIFA will insist on us representing europe, otherwise it will denigrate their competition.

And if we do- then the dippers won’t even have the ‘we won a trophy in an empty stadium’ on file as being unique.

Like your sentiment , but FIFA are in competition with UEFA for global coverage , i dont think it will be straightforward , its the City way , but if we do lose the appeal not having to endure the UEFA anthem for a couple of seasons at the Etihad would be a blessing

..and, should it happen, 50 years on from winning the Cup Winners’ Cup at an (almost) empty Prater Stadium.

Although we’d be on the telly at least, unlike in 1970 when we had to be satisfied with approx. 25 minutes of highlights due to the FACup final replay between Chelsea and Leeds being screened on both BBC and ITV.. normal service (ie covering British teams in European finals fully and live) resumed the following year when Chelsea beat Real in the final in Greece.

Oh and just to reiterate a couple of other things I’m sure you and other Blues are aware of; that final was watched by over 4000 travelling Blues, at the time the largest support ever taken abroad by an English club; and that season was the first time an English club had won domestic and European titles in the same season.. ‘No history, my a*se’..

I never realised that the Gornik match was not screened live as I was getting rat-arsed in a Vienna bar at the time.

We went on the three day trip and spent much of the matchday at the Prater Park going on the Big Wheel and remaniscing about the Harry Lime-Holly Martins scene in 'The Third Man'. The first half was fine but it bucketing down by the second half. There was no cover for most of the stadium. I had to go back to the hotel after the match for a complete change of clothes before going out.
