champs league or prem title

We have gone one year without winning the league.
Progress in the champions league is vital.
We won't win either this year as we are in transition.
Chill.

Sense.

I would always go for the PL because it would mean we've had a good season overall, unlike doing a Chelsea.

But I don't see it as one or the other. I'm convinced that if we do well in the CL it will give our PL campaign a big lift. In the last two seasons our league form suffered after being eliminated from the CL

Dont think Bayern Munich will be losing any sleep over playing us soon, we have no chance in either at the moment.

Bayern has injury problems right now. Lahm was playing in midfield today again as Schweinsteiger and Martinez are still out. I do not talk of Thiago and Götze as they might change the style but not the quality.

But that will look better in two and a half weeks.

If we carry on with the current transition, then we won't be winning either (again, in case of Prem) in my lifetime.

Prem number1 but would love either tbh

-- Sat Sep 14, 2013 8:07 pm --

Prem number1 but would love either tbh

the question wasnt \bout which one would you rather win....the question wasa are the club putting progress in the champs league as a priority before challenging for the league......i think we are....im not saying we are going to win it....we arent going to get anywhere near winning it but i tihkn the top brass would rather see us progress throught the group stages and see our league position suffer in the short term......just as chelsea did for a few years

there is no way we can concentrate on both.....

for me we should always concentrate ont he league and champs league is a secondary

Play like we are doing and we will exit at group stages and we ill struggle to get top four. Not being gloomy just following the evidence of my own eyes.

If I had to pick I'd want the prem, I want both but expect neither.

Sorry, I see your point. Maybe you're right, but it's a dangerous game to play. Doesn't take much
to slip out of Chumps League. Should concentrate on Premier, it's our bread and butter and by far
a superior competition. Saying that maybe we could win Chumps league by not playing football a la
Chelsea.

Looking at todays team at stoke , pellegrini has had his instructions , and progress in the champs league is the priority , after 4 league games we look miles away from premiership contenders , but chelsea and yooonited look shite as well ,so its early days , i would take top 4 and a champs league final now.

Premier league,i just cant get excited about the champions league as i dont think we will win it anytime soon

Same here, we're a million miles from ever doing anything in the CL

Without a doubt champions league the trophy that represents the best of the best in the world ..means more than just a domestic trophy..much more

For me it's the Premier title every season, to be honest I'm more bothered with our own domestic cup competitions than Europe. I know I'll be in an extreme minority but the Champions League before we got into never interested me and now we're into our third year it still doesn't interest me. However I have absolutely no doubt that City have made this priority number one and it'll be very interesting to see the future developments if in five years time we haven't managed to win it.

Without bucking the trend of negativity for the past 24 hours, we are after all only four games into a new season, I would quite like us to do a CL / PL double. Please accept my sincere apologies for appearing too positive!

Right now we need to make sure we're in the mix for top 4 come May. If we get through champs league group stage and then that'll be a bonus.

Agreed! The defeatism in blues over the past 24+ hours is nothing short of pathetic. I think we can prioritise both competitions. We have built our team to be able to compete on all fronts.

Now, if I were to guess which one the brass were looking at as top priority, I'd have to say Champions League followed closely by the league.

Which is the most important...for me it is the prem league...id rather win this than the champs league every year....but im thinking that maybe this year our sole aim is to advance in th champs league and we are just aiming to finish in a champs league qualifcation spot.........

IS the champs league that vital to our finances? that we sacrifice the prem for it???????

You would never sacrifice one for the other and obviously there is no need to.

Alot would have to go our way if we qualify through the group stage to go much further.

We would not be aiming just to qualify next year , we would be aiming for the premiership title every year.

Its debatable at this stage whether we are a realistic chance of winning it this year but its still early days and Liverpool would be thinking they can win the title this year so why not us.

Once you think you cannot win both each and every year your are part way to ensuring you will win neither.

We have a huge job to ensure we finish ahead of CSKA etc so lets not put all our eggs in one basket.

For me the premiership is always the priority , winning games of football breeds confidence and I never believe that you can just switch on and switch off form at the drop of a hat from one competition to another , that's just not how winning cultures are developed or at least start to be developed.

Winning on Saturday would have given us a better platform to go into Tuesday's game.
