Channel deaths | Four confirmed dead after migrant boat tragically capsizes (p 41)

Do France have any blame? Why do you use the line 'until we get a government which understands' ?
They left a country that is free from tyranny poverty and is a safe place to live.
The French police/government watch as human beings climb into a small boat and head off into the most dangerous shipping channel in the world and yet we slag our government, strange.
All blame lies at the foot of the UK government. You should know that by now.

It might well be but if there was a convention that we could sign up to that regulates where asylum seekers should go in Europe we might be able to legally force the French to take appropriate responsibility.

The thing that shall not be mentioned that came into force at the beginning of the year is the gift that keeps on giving.

It was happening before Brexit we didnt return any then. So that is irelevant isnt it. Just accept that the French werent doing anything until the tradgedy.

Another query is if the French authorities are looking after these people? why are they having to live in tents misery and squallor? They should be offered proper accomodation. Something doesnt stack up with the way they are being treated in France.

I remember in the run up to the referendum our resident Brexit Ultra's on here ganged up on me when I predicted that when we left the EU and all its agencies then France - doubtless with the covert encouragement of the rest of the EU- will have no interest in preventing these crossings taking place because it became a UK problem not an EU problem.......

How about setting up an asylum processing centre on the shores of France then, if the French are serious about this, let us build with our £25 million or whatever it is we are giving them a hub for all asylum seekers to the U.K. to go to. They then get processed there and if rejected they are sent on their merry way.

Those rejected will just jump the next smugglers boat.

Those who don’t want to be identified or legal will just jump on the next smugglers boat.

There is no answer to this other than to ensure the countries they come from are on a par economically and socially to ours. Who does that? Us? Their own governments?

That isn’t happening anytime soon. It isn’t in all honesty ever going to happen.

French authorities have to go all out on the smuggling gangs and we have to offer the financial help to achieve that and also offer the bodies to make it happen if that’s what the French want.

We should also allow people seeking genuine asylum the opportunity to present themselves and their application at embassy’s although I have a feeling, not many will do that but at least it gives those genuine in wanting a new life a way of legally trying to make it happen.

Incorrect it is a French problem. The EU did nothing and neither do the French. This tradgedy reflects terribly on them and they know it. The people smugglers are operating on French soil and the boats are leaving from French waters. I will spell it out for you again as this isnt going in, the UK has no juristriction and the French dont care about these people, they are letting them live in appalling conditions. The French Police are watching them leave, yes there are videos of it, I wonder who is telling them not to intervene?? Macron didnt give a toss untill this week when people died and it reflected badly on him. Last month he was much more worried about a few fish than peoples lives remember that?!

I dont blame the poor people for wanting to cross, who wants to claim asyslum and live in a country that treats you like that.

How on earth you and others on here are managing to turn this on its head and blame the UK for this tradgedy is simply staggering. Do you really live in some cloud cookoo land where you sit and dream up ideas and fantasies as to how to blame anything and everything on the UK.

I think there are some good ideas here. The French need help and encouragement despite being too proud to ask or possibly deliberately ignoring the issue.

This tragedy is a plague on both their houses (and a lot more besides). I could take you seriously if you were willing to recognise that 'us going alone' is undoubtedly a factor in this. Instead you choose to play 'you hate this country' card.
Who'd have thought 'taking control of our borders' wouldn't be straightforward when we live on an island?
Not forgetting of course that the one border we do have was similarly disregarded.
