Channel deaths | Four confirmed dead after migrant boat tragically capsizes (p 41)

He confirmed there was a backlog, for reasons that are apparent to everyone.

The huffing and puffing about breaking international law is just that, I'm happy to be proved wrong but as it stands we've not actually broken any laws as yet and I doubt if these charlatans will.

Everything around immigration is playing to the gallery, what irks me is that we have entrenched positions glaring across a divide. The progressive position is untenable, it brooks no criticism around this issue screaming racism at anyone who blanches at anything other than open door, and the right wing position plays to an ethnic nationalism while dog whistling swamping.

It's why Labour will never be trusted on the issue, no matter how fucked up a mess the Tories make of it.
As in "I'm not a racist, I'm an ethnic nationalist"?

The most recent was that they’ll give asylum seekers an ex-military house whilst ex-servicemen are homeless. Anything to keep the resentment on the boil.
And if I recall, the stat for the number of homeless ex-servicemen was not substantiated.

There is no suggestion that any other signatory to the Convention undergoing the issues we are - maybe they have functioning law abiding governments
Many with far more immigrants and asylum seekers than the UK.

And if I recall, the stat for the number of homeless ex-servicemen was not substantiated.

Its funny how homeless servicemen are only brought up when asylum is the conversation - its almost like those bringing homeless servicemen up don't care about them 99% of the time - they are only a concern when immigration is the topic. Where is their year round campaign to house homeless servicemen one wonders ?

Farage plays that card, as does GB News and TalkTV, though they never put it in such bold terms.

The right wing outrage around Ngozi Fulani was very much about ethnic nationalism and the cultural identity that supposidly flows from it. The argument being that if Ngozi Fulani can cling to her ethnic origins by adopting a confected West African name and a composite West African costume, despite the fact she was born here, and then use it to undermine a pillar of the British establishment, then it's OK for a pasty faced Brit of Anglo Saxon/Norman ancestry and the cultural identity that flows from that to tell her to fuck off.

Multiculturalism! What a lark it is.

Is it easy to sponsor a family member to claim asylum do you think?

Particularly when their family member is likely to be a refugee or former refugee.
I dont know how hard it is to help a family member to claim asylum, do you? I can't imagine how desparate these poor souls must be to think that getting into a small dinghy to hopefully land elsewhere, in a better country.

Very difficult.

Can refugees reunite with their families in the UK?

Yes. In certain circumstances refugees in the UK are permitted to reunite with family members who are living elsewhere.

In the year ending September 2022 4,786 Family reunion visas were issued to partners and children of those granted asylum or humanitarian protection in the UK. This is 26% lower than the previous year.

However, current rules are restrictive for refugees applying to reunite with family members in the UK. This is due to a narrow definition of who qualifies as a family member, restrictions on refugee children being able to reunite with their parents,  and a lack of legal support for refugee family reunion applications.
