Chant of the decade

If we expand beyond the last decade, my favourite is the Sha La La La Summerbee song.

I first heard it, probably its inception, was a a supporters bus going to London in 1966. I think it was on the way to the Leyton Orient match and the Small Faces were blasting Sha La La La Lee on the radio. The chant arose naturally from the song. Within minutes, the whole bus was singing it.

It soon started being aired at matches, certainly after City were back in the First Division.

Then came the add-ons. United fans would respond with ‘Who the Fucking Hell is He’. The response came as ‘The Greatest Centre Forward in History’. Mike played at number nine for two or three seasons at the time with Lee at number seven.

Later City fans added the ‘United One and City Three’ line after the 1968 match at Old Trafford.
When was " Georgie Best has got VD !!" added..? ;)

As the chants have stretched back beyond the last decade, I enjoyed this one dating to 2000.
Not sure if it made it out of the boozer but heard it at a pub on the A road between Preston and Blackburn on the way to that memorable day at Ewood (the pub very appropriately had the name Weaver in it, maybe The Witton Weaver?)
It went something like:
Who's that twat they call the Keano
Who's that twat they all adore
They pay him 50 000 quid
And he scores for Real Madrid
And they haven't got the treble any more.
Obviously old Roy had recently scored an own goal in a Rags match against Real Madrid that helped knock them out of the Champions League.

Serenading a train load of plastic scousers onto the concourse at Euston with 'You nearly won league' on the way home from Brighton. To be joined by loads of Evertonians who'd been at Spurs. Sometimes karma is beautiful & the chant was perfect.
That Union of two sets of supporters, who both despise the Kopites, must have been brilliant.

I wish I was there, though we had a fantastic time at Etihad with our grandson.

Scotland fans in the 1998 World Cup group game singing “You only sing when you’re whaling “ to the Norwegian fans made me laugh.

Amyway my contribution to City songs:

U N I T E D
Georgie Best has got VD
With a Nick, back paddywhack, give a dog a bone
That’s why Eva fucked off home.

if you want to hear more
United nil Man City four,
With a Nick back paddywhack, give a dog a bone,
Why don’t United fuck off home.

I have loads of favourite City Songs over the years but since this thread is about the past decade, for me it has to be "Mind the Gap". Fellow Blues of my generation have had to put up with so much shit from them that it made the song even sweeter. The best bit is that it's come around again this season !

Train station in Munich hundreds of City fans singing the Yaya song with the actions on the platform, brilliant

Always remember blues on the tube that season, and every time the announcement was made at each station to mind the gap, a big cheer went up and a rendition of ‘Mind the Gap’. Brilliant times...
