Coal 100% like pretty much everyone else has said, what is the point with gas ;)

Best thing I got on top of TCIB'S Weber bbq recommendation was a chimney starter, bang coals in that, light a bit of newspaper or kindling underneath and your coals will be glowing hot in 10 mins ready to cook on, nearly as quick as gas!

On another note, does anyone else cook with wood outside? As well as my BBQ, I just got a blacksmith made tripod with a tramel hook, which also has a grill. Just started messing with a dutch oven & looking to make a rocket stove in the next few days too. Anyone else had much experience of making rocket stoves? I like the idea of something quite efficient where you only need small amounts of wood, that you can make with shit you can recycle out of your house.

Get an empty oil barrel and split it in half. Or dig a hole. Flame it up then make the embers hot with no smoke. Bbq.
