Ok so now the life insurance company has agreed to pay out on my late fathers policy I need to help her find a car as she had to sell theirs when he died.
She needs something very cheap on tax and insurance, only a small engine as it’s just to get her to the shops and to take the dog out (hatchback would be better in that respect).
I don’t drive and don’t really know the first thing about cars, so if there are any experts/car salesmen on here that could recommend a good little used car then we’d both be extremely grateful.
I’ve looked at the Toyota Aygo and something around that size is ideal. Are the little Skodas any good?
Probably looking around £6-7K.

Skoda’s are great cars (these days)
Usually better equipped than ‘bigger brands’ too at a lower end price point.
Wife’s got a Skoda Rapid spaceback.
1.2 turbo (petrol), nippy enough, £30 a year road tax and does 45-50 mpg.
I’d take a look at a Fabia, if she wants something even smaller look at the citigo.

Anything with a Honda badge on & you wont go far wrong, to be honest most modern cars are very good for reliablity.

If you get a Skoda don't go anywhere near their main dealer in Stockport. They quoted me £300 for a new stop-start battery. I went down the road and got one for £155 from Direct Tyres on Newbridge Lane.

Tell her to just get Ubers, it's cheaper and less headachy......

Škoda Fabia. Maybe consider an automatic if she is elderly. Made a huge difference for my mum.
