CHED EVANS

he's great defensively and can really hold the ball. he just was in bad form last night.he'd be gr8 in a couple of seasons

Cannot believe the stick everyone has given him. Run his balls off for the cause, won alot of headers and held the ball up as well as he could. He was put in obviously because Caicedo will start on Sunday and Hughes thought it was a case of playing out the game, but obviously that didn't happen. The only criticism is that if you look at it closely, his arm does leave his side and handled the ball, which is a definate penalty. But that can be put down to inexperience and desperate defending. Anyway he bagged a penalty holding his nerve and helping us to the next round, putting us in dreamland!! So who cares...he did a job, did well and were in the hat for the next round!!

I don't rate him at all(that being said, when it came to Pens I was most confidant when he walked up), but Hughes seems to, and I think it has nothing to do with his nationality. As fans its very hard to understand what's going on and by that I mean Hughes writes the script and wants players that will stick to it and perhaps of the forwards that where available last night, he sticks closest to what he is told to do. As a player he is much weaker right now than big Phil(and I'm not his biggest fan either), I think it was just a case of Hughes having more trust in Evans, because I'm sure at the back of his mind is the fact that unless we come close to winning this thing his job might be in question and in turn his career(its very hard to get the biggest jobs after you have "failed").

there is some right crap written in this thread, started by the op who seems to have done one(or banned)
this is how it is
the pens apart everyone played shit, they were jaded too.its was hard watching swp, superman and even kompany play so poorly. it can only be fatigue.
as for the ched /cascido debate as said neither are good enough at this standard, in time they may get there but right now no chance.
ched does give us more movement and a little more pace, his pen was class.
that said i think phil should have played at least the second half, just for his build and phyisique.we need a bulldozer up there. we folded last night and to progress we need to step up a gear, once bellamy is back we'll look far more lively.

I'm inclined to agree, Caicedo doesn't look up to playing twice a week, so to play Evans to close the opposition down looked a sound move. We still have limited options till our injury list clears up. For all the slagging off of Hughes I can't see many alternatives. Once we got to extra time there was no way MH would take off Evans as he is a proven penalty taker. I was certainly less confident when SWP and Dunnie stepped up to the plate. It took guts for Evans to take the first especially after having an average game and giving the penalty away.

Evans > Caicedo.

if so, it's not that clear cut. evans may have potential. caicedo may ha ve potential. neither is the finished article. hopefully next year we'll have a deep enough squad to play them when we want to, when it's good for their development instead of out of desperation.

I don't know, it has to be pointed out that these 2 guys are 5 and 6 on our list of strikers, most PL teams I'm guessing would be down to this type of player.

Strange thread. Ched Evans did OK first half with a lot of effort and held the ball up well on occasions. Disappeared later on when the whole team stopped playing football. Having said that he is not good enough to be a long-term member of the striker selection.
