Chelsea (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I missed the first half.
Great second half.

NOR is special, hopefully he’s fit to play Arsenal.

Still a long way to go to win the league, Arse are still favourites.
But we have a chance.
Disagree, I don't think it's a "long way to go". I'd place us as favourites easily on current form. Beat them next week and can you honestly see them bettering us for the rest of the season, given their results and the way they have performed in the last few matches?

Outplayed in the League Cup final and beaten by us convincingly, lost to a Championship side in the FAC while we slapped 4 past Liverpool, lost at home to Bournemouth while we put 3 past Chelsea away...and only just scraped past a bang average Lisbon side with yet another late goal. Their form is awful while we're hitting top form at the right time.

I accept that if they win next week they'll probably have enough to get them over the line, although a draw means it will still be tight and I'm not convinced they won't drop more points, but if they lose I cannot honestly see them having enough to stay with us, especially given that they're still in the Champs League, which is just more pressure they really don't need.

I’m not disagreeing. He’s come into a top side after about 50 appearances with no language.

Nobody could have dreamt that his development would be this stratospheric.

Without hyperbole, he might have ended Dias’ career here, given the other centre halves we have next season.
Yes, spot on. I've backed him from the start though and taken a lot of stick for it, but I could see it in him, having watched a lot of footage of him before he joined us. I said at the time I thought he was one of our best signings and he'll just get better and better.

Funny how we've signed all these players that few others rated highly enough to take on, Khus, Cherki, Haaland, even KDB wasn't rated that highly and couldn't get in the team at Chelsea earler in his career. Says a lot about our recruitment team.

So, in our last three matches, we’ve beaten three teams - cheating Arsenal in the League Cup final, Littlewoods in the FA Cup and the Kremlin dwellers in the Premier League - who are supposed to be our direct rivals at the top of the English game, by a combined aggregate of 9-0.

Not bad for a side in transition.

There is an element of luck though in how players develop.

We’re better than most at minimising that though.

Absolutely spot on.

I'm staggered at the fact that most people cannot see this title race for what it is. A team that's desperately hanging on despite being 9 points clear and with only 6 matches to go. If you're that nervous and panicky despite having such a massive advantage and so little room for error for the chasing team, yet the best you can manage out of those fixtures is a scrappy CL win against a bang average Lisbon side, not only are you not going to win anything, you don't deserve to.

City on the other hand, absolutely on fire and desperately unlucky not to take all three points in both the West Ham and Forest games, before Taking Arsenal apart in the League Cup final, Liverpool even more so in the FA Cup then making light work of Chelsea today.

Yet despite this our own fanbase is still full of fans who cannot see how far ahead, in terms of how we're playing and our confidence levels, we are compared to Arsenal.

These are just a few gems from TODAY's match thread:

"We’re crumbling under pressure here"
"Pressure is causing us to play like this"
"Seriously, this is shit. Arsenal are bottling it but we are not champion worthy"
"This is wank now"
"Nerves not just getting to Arsenal, us too."
"Rubbish so far"
"Certain players are sloppy because of nerves and some not been in this situation of a must win"
"Just let them score first it’s gonna happen anyway….
"Run ragged here by not playing out properly. Players look tense."
"Swear to fuck we are the most nervous team in the league"

Yet we were never in any real trouble. Sure, it was obvious we needed to step up a gear but if you've watched more than a handful of City's matches this season you SHOULD know what we're capable of, yet these clowns can't even get their head around the fact that a match isn't decided in the first 15 minutes.

We've shown ZERO nerves or pressure over the past few matches, blown Arsenal, Liverpool and now Chelsea away without conceding a goal and yet OUR fans are bottling it. Not the team, the fans. It's hilarious to see. The only thing that makes it funny though is the fact that while we're revelling in the challenge, Arsenal and their fans really are bottling it.

This wasn't even a must-win today (according to many of our fans it was probably the 10th time they have proclaimed a match to be a "must win"), but had we lost we wouldn't have been any worse off. ONE match is key and that's next week. Arsenal have enough in the bank - probably - to be able to afford a draw. Win it and they likely win the title, but lose and it's ours. I can even see them losing a couple more, but if we're still 6 or more points behind this time next week it's probably going to see them through.

Yet we have one trophy in the bank, another cup semi-final, a chance of the title, all from a team still in transition yet the lack of belief on this forum is staggering. Heaven knows what the Arsenal forums must be like if ours are still this bad.

We've got this, JUST FUCKING BELIEVE and give our lads the backing they deserve instead of slating them for a slow 15 minute spell like it's something you've never seen before.
The match thread is for knobheads. Why anyone goes on that is beyond me.
Fantastic from City today and never in doubt in my house.

Wasnt long ago we were known for collapsing in the 2nd half of games , now we are thriving for 90 minutes , the last three games are a throw back to our prime title winning teams , if we beat the Goons next week , wouldnt be surprised if we win the last six games on current form. We have took some shit from pundits this season and yet we could easily end up with a domestic treble, go figure.
A lot of that came from our own "fans" on here too, not just the pundits. Even today the nobheads were having a go in the first half, still can't understand that you can't be 100% for 90 minutes in every match. We've actually only lost 1 out of the last 20 league matches and NONE of the domestic cup matches yet the way some bang on about it you would think we'd lost every other match.

Would be 6 clear realistically with 5 to go, won’t be mathematical but ….
They'll be 9 clear again if they win next week so it will likely be enough, though we'll still have a game in hand. A draw might be enough for them, but if they lose it I don't think they'll have enough in the tank to match us for the rest of the season. So whoever wins next week probably wins the title.

That “fan” they kept showing, if he’s disabled, then it’s on the tv studio and it’s out of order showing him being weird. If he’s actually a grown man that took a bottle with the arsenal logo into the game, and then those shirts with messages on, our fan base is absolutely ruined by weirdos

Sorry, but I don't understand how a team that is still in transition yet has already lifted one trophy and reached the semi's of the FA Cup and still be in with a decent shot at the title, can be labelled as having had a shit season...
I meant in relative terms with respect to the Premier League. It's not been our best season by a long way.

Having said that, I was there when we were really shit. I went pretty much home and away when we were down in the third tier of English football, and I never dreamed we'd be anywhere near where we are now.

Incredible player. I keep saying this but we've not seen the best of him by far. He's likely under instructions not to venture too far forward but he had a surge forward in the Madrid match that nearly resulted in a goal and there was some power in that shot today. I don't think we've got another player who can hit a ball that hard. He's got a great long ball in him too. Amazing pace, strong, reads the game well and nothing fazes him. Could make the transition to midfield and become a Ballon D'Or candidate in a few years, I genuinely believe that.
Shades of Kolarov in that shot. I wouldn't have wanted to be in the way of it for sure.

After a display like that you can’t help get excited about what might happen

Another treble ….. our third

“The treble treble”

I wish people would stop banging on about that. He made ONE mistake which was at least partly due to Akanje leaving it to him instead of putting his foot through it, and another that led to a goal (like that's never happened to a defender before), but he also made a tackle that saved a certain goal and has made countless others since. Yet everyone keeps bringing it up like he let 5 goals in or something.
Yeah, that was my joke

Seriously? Nah hes obviously ok

Don’t care where the swap is, we’re not pantomime fans and that was embarrassing to see. If you all know him, fair enough but I thought he looked a complete clown and I don’t need to know him

Oh dear.
Our fans base has always taken the piss out of ourselves and others.
It might come back and bite us on the bum but who cares ?
Going to matches is about having fun.

What do you think of the lad that dresses as a banana ?

You do know what we mean by the term swamp ?

My guess is you arent a blue

The last 3 games we have started slow, poor in fact yesterday, then we have a mad 20/25 minutes and absolutely blow the opposition away !
Can we do it from the first minute v the Arse next week please :)
