Chelsea (a) post match thread

And there you've just proved my point! Blinded by the reckless breed of football we were playing, you failed to see what was coming next..... Almost getting relegated from the Champions League two years later that's what!

Just as I wasn't purely watching our victories and wins back then, I'm not doing the same this time around fella. Read between the lines and see the patterns and frequencies. These events have gone completely over your angry head, but don't worry, now just like back then you will begin to see the light....... Hopefully!

I've heard a cold shower helps dude, give it a go eh! :-)

Agree with everything thing you said. In the meantime, next up is Hull. Onwards and upwards.
Definitely fella. After last seasons debacle, this season had to be about putting the foundations back in place. I feel this is what will happen this summer with our defence being the immediate priority.

I also think next season will be more about bedding in further with us hopefully being fully back on track in time for 18-19. It's only 16 months away and that's a long time in football.

It is, But it's disappointing that we're already talking about the season after next. I think next year could well end up being a transitional year, if that ends up being the case then we certainly need to tie Pep down for longer.

We had at least two on target in second half. Stones header and Aguero from Nolito's ball.

It seems Delph agrees with @Dribble.

Delph: "We were the better team by far – by a country mile."
To be honest mate, only an angry fool would say otherwise. Ifs and buts ultimately don't count and what happens does, however removing the 3 scrappy goals and looking at the performance of both sides overall we were more impressive.

Our defence has been decimated over the last 3 years to the point where the players looked broken. Albeit our defence is our weakest point, I sense that every player is on board with where we're heading because they can see what the more considered and not so angry fan can see, which is steady progress and a plan.

This is the Premier League and not even Jesus (The one with the beard, long hair and sandals) could have sorted out the mess our defence was in at the end of last season and continued to play the expansive, attacking football we've seen at times this season.

I've spoken to another Chelsea fan today who smiled and nodded to me today and predicted we'd be the team to beat next season! I told him that I honestly disagreed with him, but I replied that the season after that next will begin to tell the world all they need to know about Guardiola the manager. He needs time. He's one of us, and deserves our support accordingly and he's definitely got mine for now....

But that has been the City we have watched all season. Great in possessions, and unable to create scoring opportunities.

It took a huge slice of luck to score: a mis-kick by Courtois, and then Silva's shot rebounded perfectly to Aguero. We had chances, but mostly from set-pieces. I remember Sane going through one on one and Courtois just got a touch to it. And also Fernandinho. Stones had two chances from set pieces but they were from crosses.

So it was good up to a point. We're still not creating chances from open play. I think it's because whilst Aguero can finish chances, he's not got he speed to create space for himself in the box, or behind the defence. Jesus has, so long term this does not bother me.

I thought the defence was better against Chelsea and Kompany was for me MoM. We looked a treat from set-pieces, and he was reading the game so well, but remember Chelsea decided to sit back for a half, and played within themselves because for them the 3 points were everything.
I agree to a degree Marvin, and I think the writing is on the wall for who is going to be our main striker in seasons to come. Jesus is a total team player and plays to win, not just to score. It shouldn't be lost on most that when Jesus started playing for us earlier in the season, it transformed our fortunes because not only did we have a skillful, unselfish creator in our ranks, we also had someone who was a deadly finisher too.

THREE TIMES Aguero should have passed to a player better placed and once he took an impossible wild shot that went wide and twice he tried to beat Chelsea's 9 man defence failing miserably both times. It was a shock when it was announced on TV that we only win 49% of matches with Aguero and over 70% without him!

Guardiola has now had a season up close & personal to see his players in action & I assume he'll have a handsome transfer budget to do with as he sees fit. He's proved several times that he's not a respecter of reputations, so this summer promises to be a very interesting one on all levels.....

I love the way Pep conducts his press conferences with some clever remarks that most people don't even notice. When asked if he saw the Costa kick on Kompany Pep says "No normally me and the referees don't see these things" hahahaha

This happens at least 3-4 times EVERY game but most people overlook it and say but Aguero has improved, he worked hard. Also makes many wrong decisions in the build up, i.e. passes to the player on his right side with a defender covering him, when the player on the left is almost through on goal. OK the effort is there but the necessary skills unfortunately aren't. World Class striker but not for us anymore. He will be sold in the summer, I'm sure of it.

Mate, it took 3 years to destroy what was built before it, so I for one am happy to wait 2-3 years to get back to where we were so we could move one to where we hoped we'd be by now in 3-4 years. We have no God given right to success, we have to work hard to get it and Wenger, Klopp, Conte, Maureen, Pochettino aren't just gonna bend over, lube up and allow us to tear their collective creases apart.

I have a feeling that Guardiola's professional pride will drive him to want to succeed and prove he's not just a flat track bully in a a 2 or 1 team league and to that end, he may well have to extend his deal to prove that...... with the caveat being, as long as he still has the support of those above him which I think he does.

Did we ever thinlk that there was a chance of Aguero being sold any time soon when the season kicked off? Well I didn't! BUT no matter how much I love him as a player, his selfish streak is doing no favours and yes, you're correct, this has been going on all season and when we think about it, it's been going on for a lot longer than that.

There is a reason Guardiola dropped Aguero if favour of Jesus (Fuck, i love that name) Looool :-) and at that point I think he proved his point as Jesus transformed the way we played. This is definitely gonna get interesting mate! :-)

tell me, when, in 2014, we were putting SIX past Arsenal and SIX past Spurs and utterly annihilating ALL the top teams, what decline were you talking about? You weren't. And you wouldn't. That season we were sublime. We scored for fun, we battered everyone. Decline? In your head maybe.

If you want to say "WOW" about a game that Chelsea won; if you want to say "WOW" about a City performance that saw us score once. And lose. Go ahead. I'll reserve my excitement for a performance that properly warrants a "WOW". Last night's didn't. By a fucking long chalk.

We scored a lot of goals that season - but we didn't annihilate ALL the top teams. Chelsea still beat us on both occasions, as they did this season. Other than Spurs and the Rags there were many matches where we won quite convincingly only to get beaten in the return leg (or vice-versa). We beat Liverpool at ours - but they beat us at theirs. We only manged to score 1 goal against Barcelona over 2 legs in the CL.

Moving away from the better teams, that same season Sunderland drew at ours and went on to beat us at theirs, and we also got beat at home to Wigan in the FA cup.

We scored a lot of goals but it's over egging the pudding a bit to suggest that we battered everyone. If we battered everyone why did the league's lead change hands 25 times that season?
