Chelsea (a) post match thread

? i get we haven't won, but how is the performance irrelevant ?. we played really well and lost to the champions. its not the end of the world. no win in four games against some really good teams swell.

No I mean people are more concerned at the lack of winning, we have played ok plenty of times this season and ultimately come out with a point at best. I think the gripes are despite this happening many times this season we have carried on with the same approach which is admirable but costing us a bit. Well Stoke at home aside I agree it's been a tough run of fixtures but coming out of the last 3 games with 2 points isn't great. Our form against the top 6 yet again hasn't been good enough too.

Someone needs to say it as it was.

Mancini like Pellegrini had one decent season and the rest was mainly fucking turgid. It wasn't that long ago not to remember the crap performances and defeats yet its like history is being re written on here yet again.

Fans constantly longing for his return are a complete fucking embarrassment and i will tell you why. Not a fucking peep from any of them when things are going well, not one peep yet as soon as we lose a game they are back on moaning and whining.

Some are far more interested in being proven right on an internet forum at times than they are City doing whats required and moving forwards.

We played well last night. Some of the attacking play is on a different level to anything else seen in this league and but for some lax finishing and the final ball, we are not far off. Kun, Sane, Jesus, Sterling, KdB, Merlin gracing the pitch yet its moan fucking moan. "Should have backed Bobby" is the cry yet you all forget one thing. he would have spunked money on Van Persie and whilst it might have won a league, we can only guess he too would have been gone now and those players mentioned Merlin and Kun aside probably wouldn't be here and we would be watching the Ballotelli show week in week out or at least we would when he wasn't suspended.

We need new full backs, a keeper and a dominant CM. We can all see it, we have all said it and we have all acknowledged it will happen this summer when several contracts are up and players will leave that are just no longer up to it. What do you want Pep to do in the meantime? Play players he doesn't have? Chelsea barely mustered a shot 2nd half last night and but for a deflection and some poor goalkeeping and a lucky deflection yet again off the penalty save they have actually done fuck all. They didn't out play us, we out played them for large periods yet some just dont want to see it.

Pep came in and said we are going to change the mentality of the club. Not just the tam, the club and he said on several occasions its going to take time. We are competing against clubs with decades of experience at the very top when in reality we have been there for a few years. We went unbeaten at the start of the season but he kept telling us we would lose game, lots of games and he has been proven right. Maybe he knew then the quality in the squad wasn't of the required standard? He told us it wasn't a quick fix and that his job would take several years. Did anyone actually listen to what he said or was it in one ear and out the other?

Best owner in world football, some of the best talent in world football and without a doubt, the best manager in world football as shown by his record and for those that will harp on its easy when you are with Barca and Bayern, his job here is to turn us into those same sort of elite clubs that for the next 50 years will dominate the game because he has changed our mentality into the same as theirs. Winners!

The fans also need to change their mentality. Its not all about the next game or the next few weeks. it will take time but it will happen because everything our owner planned for when he came in and promised he has delivered and in Pep, he will deliver once more. If you cant see the improvements being made within the club as a whole i feel sorry for you. if you cant see what he is trying to do out on the pitch i feel sorry for you. Pragmatism is thown around here like confetti. You want pragmatism? Watch a Mourinho side or a Pulis side because that's pragmatism. Turgid, crap anti football that harps back to the days of muddy pitches, big lad up front and shouts of "get rid" from the sidelines and "get it up to the big man up front".

No fucking thanks because we are better than that and it might win the odd battle but it wont win the war because we will win the war.

Finally refs and linesmen are screwing us over every single game. See that for what it is and accept it and instead or turning on the team, direct some of that anger at them because they are costing us big time. Such fine lines in football and this season we have been royally fucked over and its costs us so many points its untrue. We get what we where due and the league table looks very different and the mood on here is very different. Its not Peps fault they are bent, nor is it Merlin's or Raheem's and like us, the players are fucked off with it as well but its a battle right now and we all have to take the fight to them and win the war.

Its a passionate game and we all love this club but some of the stuff written after a defeat is cringe worthy and downright disrespectful.

Pragmatism is my new favourite word because if someone complains Pep isn't pragmatic, I immediately know they are full of shit and not worth talking to.

Someone was mouthing off about how naïve pep was last night and how he needed be be pragmatic. I asked them what specifically was not pragmatic about how we set up yesterday with an extra defensive midfielder and Fernandinho practical man marking Hazard...no response of course.

The notion of Guardiola not being pragmatic comes from a caricature of him in the press as some hopeless football romantic-missionary, trying to spread the gospel of his perfect football around the globe. It couldn't be less accurate, but it's a fun image so it gets traction.

The same is true when people complain about the defence compared to Conte. The same defence that has still conceded fewer than Chelsea in the last 9 games and 4x as many clean sheets, but of course the people who complain about the defence aren't actually interested in inconvenient facts or figure.

As for the rest of your post I 100% whole heartedly agree.

oh right. i understand there is concern about lack of winning recently, but just based on last nights game, we played quite well. there were more positives imo then negatives. if we play like that in our upcoming games then we will be fine. I've seen comments on here though, saying players were abysmal', and pep is a fraud, which i just cant understand. its a long term project and i think the signs are there for how good it can be.

disagree , when the goons equalised on sunday the team went for the jugular and were superb regaining the lead within 3 minutes and we battered the Chavs 2nd half if we had taken one of the 3 or 4 clear chances (never looked liked scoring ? tell that to Chav fans whistling for the end of the game), this thread would have a completely different tone and Pep would be a managerial genius .
The Arsenal performance was pretty much absymal, the equalising was an action-reaction moment and yet again our mental fragility showed after their second equaliser..No one wanted to make things happen, leaving it to others, just like in so many games when things aren't going our way.
Of course as fans we'll try to see the positives but Chelsea did what they had to do having suffered a defeat, they couldn't afford to not pick up at least a point, and knew exactly what to do.They were never going to make it a spectacle and an open game.Had their moments and ruthlessly executed them.I'd not want us to be a pragmatic side but there's no right or wrong way of playing football, especially when they lift the league in May,their fans won't care as long as they keep winning. We played okay and battered them in terms of shots, shots on target and possession and pass completion stats but still not like Courtois had a worldie or they were putting bodies on the line and defending for their lives..They always looked comfortable. We just shaded it but never really forced the issue enough especially with them having played so poorly.

To be fair, the Stones chance wasnt a sitter. It looked that way at first glance but the ball was behind him, it would actually have been an excellent finish if he'd scored. Fernandhino had much the better chance but even that wasnt a sitter. We've missed a few sitters this season but not a huge number. The problems have been that we havent created a huge number of clear cut chances considering the quality of our build up play up to the box, and havent converted enough of the "difficult but scoreable" chances.
Fernandinho effort was poor. Stones was very unlucky. Kompany got a nick on it just before it came to Stones and it put it behind him and he couldn't react in time. We had enough chances to get something out of it. From open play though I think we should be better. Jesus will make it much easier to create because of his pace. It will create space for those around him. Hopefully 2-3 weeks away and no rust

As much as we can sometimes look devastatingly good going forward, there are too many games where a team can park the bus against us and we look so pedestrian that keeping us out is way too easy. Thought that lack of intensity was a problem in the second half, just strolling around in possession and not truly testing Chelsea's concentration at all. Not sure why Pep didn't make any changes earlier when Chelsea looked so comfortable keeping us out.

I suspect that if you asked any of the Chelsea defence if they thought it was easy last night they would disagree. If you asked Conte if he thought it was easy as he was fretting on the touchline the whole of the second half he would also take exception. If you asked the nervous Chelsea fans desperate for the final whistle if they thought it was easy, again, they would say otherwise.

Chelsea defended well, as they have all season, and we still managed to carve out some decent chances and on another night one or more would go in.

Its a spoon fed media narrative and some just lap it up.

You will hear something said on the tv or written in the papers and within minutes on here its being trotted out as fact by someone.

And you're forgetting the endless 4-0 5-0 6-0 victories under Mancini home and away. His strategy was simple and bloody effective. Solid defence, draw oppositions and strike with pace in space vacated further forward. This high pressing bollocks we had /have under pep and pelle compresses still further limited space and leaves us vulnerable to counter. It's ill-conceived.

Endless 4-0, 5-0, 6-0 victories under Mancini?

10/11

4-0 vs Aston Villa
5-0 vs Sunderland

11/12

4-0 Swansea
4-0 Blackburn
4-0 West Brom

12/13

5-0 Aston Villa
4-0 Newcastle

I'm not sure I'd call 7 games endless...

We forget that this for them was an absolutely massive game. A game after a home defeat. A difficult hurdle for them on the way to the league title when getting the 3 points was everything. They did what they needed to do to get the 3 points, but the goals we have them were gifts - as usual.
