Chelsea(A) - Post Match Thread

Don't underestimate the performance of the front 3, they basically kept 5 Chelsea players busy. Superb.
This - what a shift Jesus put in - some people might have thought that he had a quiet game - but he played his part

Hopefully if we can maintain that level and have a bit of luck along the way, the 2nd Place Trophy could well be ours this year.

There was a time when pressing us was he answer - this time last year we were very vulnerable to it - but now the players we have are so comfortable on the ball, so at ease with the system, that pressing us will be suicidal and Conte knows that. The structure we have in the team with 3 or 4 options for the man with the ball at all times, the accuracy of Edersons distribution, the width that we maintain with the two wingers on the touch line means that pressing us effectively is going to be almost impossible.

I'm looking forward to seeing someone try to really get after us with a press, we'll score a ton.

If a side is going to press this City team, they have to be absolute fucking experts at it, not just decide to do it on the day.

It's like us, under Mancini or the Pelle, playing Barca & going 'oh we'll press these today, that will stop them'. Erm..

One of Pep's mantra's is it isn't about star player's or ego's but about the team, the philosophy and the system and way of playing. Yesterday missing three star player's and characters it all came to fruition.

Was out last night so not had chance to post. Absolute complete performance with all the team contributing.

I think we have found a very capable understudy to Mendy in Delph, superb match.

Chuffed to bits for John Stones, that was the best I have seen from him. He gets so much shit from rival supporters especially Stretford and lets hope he can build on this and develop into the world class cb that we know he can be.

KDB what can you say masterclass performance. We need to get that extended contract sorted asap

I didn't see the game and meant to tape it, but being a fucking moron forgot to. I had I initially voted a draw, but changed to a win after Aguero was hurt as I thought and hoped they would step up to the plate.

It looks like you did. Well in. :)

He was very unlucky with that beautifully controlled strike. Thought Rudiger knew little about it. Just happened to be in the right place. On another day he would have scored. He's full of energy and his movement doesn't half drag defenders all over the shop, so they leave him out on his own. He was totally unmarked for that lofted ball from Sterling. That would have been a goal that might well have eclipsed KdB's!

Very very impressive. Ederson, Delph, Fernandinho, KDB, Jesus...wow. 10 out of 10 all round there. Only player who might score below an 8 would have been Sane who gave the ball away a few times, still a solid 7 though.

The commentators mentioned a few times, that Chelsea were not pressing us enough. Like you say, they're not used to
doing it and usually don't have to do it and they have to make sure they do it right, else we know the result.
So best thing for them is to do what they know, ie fill the box and defend for their lives.

There was nothing wrong with Conte's tactics imo. He did the same at our place last season & was hailed as a tactical genius, because of some shit defending, shit refereeing & shit finishing. We are a better team than them 1v1 & he knows it.

We still only scored one & they could have scored, in spite of us wiping the floor with them.

The pundits claiming Chelsea could have done this or that, are just persuading themselves of that, because the alternative is that City are fucking brilliant.

Absolutely brilliant from all involved. Maybe the best I've ever seen us play. We were in total control and Chelsea never looked like troubling us.

Conte's look of resignation in the interview after the game said it all for me.
He knew his team had been given a football lesson and their chances of matching us are non existent.
A very worried man.

An absolute masterclass in how to dominant a top team. What I'm delighted at is that it's a game at prime time, where everyone can see it.

We've gone to last years Champions and completely battered them, they couldn't get out of their own half.
And you were extremely worried before the game! That'll teach ya.

Yeh I'd agree with all that. Did think Otamendi bar one challenge was brilliant.
