Chelsea(A) - Post Match Thread

Interesting thoughts by Gerrard etc on how Chelsea should have 'pressed' us.

Yeah Hazard & Morata would love to do a couple of miles extra chasing of the ball & we would just hate it if their midfield & defence all came into our half. No way we would possibly have exploited that.
Yeh, that seems to be the take at the moment from some sections of the media/pundits, how Chelsea should have pressed more. However I wonder if they have asked themselves the question, City didn't allow them to press, or does that not suit the narrative?

The match thread on The shed End, is quite funny if anyone has time to read it
Some beauties and I’ve not even gotten up to the start of the game yet:

Pep said they will try to monopolise the ball and play what they usually do. Wrong! That means he didn't finish his homework. Even Le Arse showed up with defensive tactics after all these humiliations and embarrassments. So I'm quite confident about this one. You cant just come to the Bridge, trying to monopolise the ball and hope you will get the 3 points. That never happens.

There was a time when pressing us was he answer - this time last year we were very vulnerable to it - but now the players we have are so comfortable on the ball, so at ease with the system, that pressing us will be suicidal and Conte knows that. The structure we have in the team with 3 or 4 options for the man with the ball at all times, the accuracy of Edersons distribution, the width that we maintain with the two wingers on the touch line means that pressing us effectively is going to be almost impossible.

I'm looking forward to seeing someone try to really get after us with a press, we'll score a ton.

Brilliant result. Didn't see a lot of the game but that really sends out a message.

Was unfortunate enough to watch the rags yesterday and after the game I walked up to about 5 rags after the game.

Conversation went a bit like this.

Me - what did you think of that today.
Rag - we were great / strong / easy
Me - we are not a patch on city though are we?

Walks on.

Probably should not be behaving like this at 42 but can't stand them!!

Although the praise from most pundits has rightly been high a few still trying to dampen it down with " Chelsea were a bit leggy after their exertions in midweek." Fuck right off! They were leggy because they were swarmed by and chasing maroon shadows. They played Wednesday night and didn't kick off until Saturday teatime. The flight home is 2 hours 25 minutes. So they have all Thursday day and night to rest and sleep, Friday to do some light training and rest and as they are at home probably not turn up at the ground until mid afternoon Saturday with minimal travel involved. Leggy my arse!

From now on I'm going to refer to that game as The Blueprint. Stunning performance.

A masterclass from Pep and the team Away at Chelsea.

Not only did we play them off the park we showed great character to play this way and win after suffering two serious injury blows in such a short amount of time.

Every single player played their part. Delph a revelation at LB. Walker excellent after having trouble midweek. Our CBs also very good. Fernandinho back to top form. Silva top class as usual. Sane & Sterling problematic for defenders and created a lot. Jesus put in a monster defensive shift this game, a key part of our successful pressing. Got an assist and was unlucky not to score after a wonderful pass from Sterling. Ederson wow, what a player, he brings so much confidence to the team, hasn't conceded in more than a month, top class at everything, coming out, stopping shots, passing, starting counters, etc, etc. De bruyne bossed the game and scored the winner, this is a season defining match as the Chelsea loss was last season and this time we won it and De bruyne scored. Symbolic almost. I think we win the league.

This is the best performance of the Pep era and one of the best I've seen in a long time. After the first half at Shakhtar, I was a little worried but we played much better against Chelsea than Shaktar and conceded less chances which is quite the statement.

Resilience, grit, professionalism to see out the result, high pressing, slick passing, directness we showed everything this game.

One of the best all round performances I have ever seen us display. Disciplined at the back and controlled the midfield.
