Chelsea(A) - Post Match Thread

Been having a ganders at The Shed forum. This is my favourite post from there:-

"City were the better team tonight by some distance. 1-0 flattered us. I underestimated how good city would be, they're the real deal and look like they mean serious business. And that's without there 2 best defenders and their star striker. Thank f**k they never managed to get the sanchez deal done otherwise just hand them the f**king trophy."

A surprisingly accurate account from Chelsea fan.

There was nothing wrong with Conte's tactics imo. He did the same at our place last season & was hailed as a tactical genius, because of some shit defending, shit refereeing & shit finishing. We are a better team than them 1v1 & he knows it.

We still only scored one & they could have scored, in spite of us wiping the floor with them.

The pundits claiming Chelsea could have done this or that, are just persuading themselves of that, because the alternative is that City are fucking brilliant.

Chelsea defended really well for the most part and nearly got away with not losing but yesterday, instead of missing an open goal from close range, Kev fired in a beauty from distance and we got the three points that we deserved.

I need to watch the game again to make sure I'm not getting carried away but I don't believe in 45 years as season ticket holder I have seen a better away performance from City. Our first meeting with Chelsea last season was a pivotal game and I'm hoping this one is equally significant. If City continue to show the commitment, concentration and composure that they did at The Bridge we will prove to be fucking brilliant.

Brilliant result. Didn't see a lot of the game but that really sends out a message.

Was unfortunate enough to watch the rags yesterday and after the game I walked up to about 5 rags after the game.

Conversation went a bit like this.

Me - what did you think of that today.
Rag - we were great / strong / easy
Me - we are not a patch on city though are we?

Walks on.

Probably should not be behaving like this at 42 but can't stand them!!
Fuck me you went to that shithole voluntary??

Other than Fernandinho's harsh booking how did we all rate ref Atkinson? He has to take credit for allowing us to play Chelsea off the park. It also helped not having the antics of Costa and Side-show Bob on show. Otamendi's needless argie-bargie yellow would have been welcomed if he had taken Fabregas out and not Willian.
Thought he handled things pretty well and Fernandinho's booking was reasonable though a couple of their players should have been in the book earlier for more obvious bookings (Bakayoko and Alonso)

Job to find anything wrong with that performance, but it wouldn't be Bluemoon without it, so how about the rash challenge by Otamendi at the end and the fancy flick by Jesus giving the ball away when there were better options? Nah, we will let them go! This is the best City side ever, definitely a step up from last year .

Both had me swearing at the TV; even my 16 year old daughters who think Jesus is some sort of puppy were critical of him. The prefect performance does not exist but it we deliver a better one than yesterday, we'll get close.

I can't remember a better away performance.

Chelsea were in absolute prime form, & full of confidence, having just produced one of their best ever away European performances. The 'tiredness' excuse, is bollocks imo. It's September not March & both sides have had tough midweek games.

If we were playing Chelsea next week after someone had done to them what City did, then the equivalent performance would be downgraded, but they are the champions & bang in form.

The important thing now, is to forget it & play v the lesser teams with the same skill & intensity & make sure we get the points in the bag.

Do that & we'll be in pole position for the title six weeks from now.

Yup. Chelsea were on a really good run after their opening day blip. Four past Stoke (away) and a win in Madrid. The extra day we had to recover helped a bit I'm sure but did not give us the rather large edge we had in performance.

The reason Pep bangs on about being a humble team is that he wants that intensity against less fashionable teams and it is an accusation that City teams have been open to i.e. not treating some opponents with enough respect; how valid that criticism was can be debated but what is key is to not let anyone raise the question in the future.
