Chelsea - FA Cup SF | Post-Match Thread

Shocking game that many of us predicted in the pre match thread.Once we stray from our best 12/13 the drop off is vast,as proved today. We looked a million times better when Foden and Gundogan entered play.

However, being realistic, something had to give.....just a shame it was the FA Cup.

Hope Kev is ok,now let's do that treble :-)
Totally agree with this comment, the drop off in performance if Pep strays too far away from Wednesdays team is very apparent.

Insipid performance, Chelsea were all over us for ages, when I watched it I just knew it wouldn't end well. Sterling was shit, the rest well below their usual performances, they looked tired.
We mustn't play like this against Villa, losing matches at this stage of the season can become a habit.

Having slept on it I think the reaction to Pep from some on here is over the top and a bit spoilt. This same rotation now has us in the CL semis. To be brutal I don't care much if we win the domestic cups because we've won them so many times recently. I want to see us throw everything at the CL and that's clearly the tournament he's prioritising too.

I agree with this but I will say it's the manner of defeat rather than the fact we're not going to win the FA Cup. It was embarrassing to watch and, as much as I question Pep's poor substitutions, I think he was entirely let down by the players.

We're getting closer and closer to crunch time and some of them are seriously running out of chances.

Don’t understand all the surprise in this thread. Leeds was all you needed to know.
And the same next Sunday, if I was a betting man I would back Spurs.

A typical Mourinho performance and a 1-0 win for them.

There is no way Pep can play a strong team with PSG to follow a few hours later.

The players outside our first choice team need a serious change and have done for some time, too many players going through the motions.

So in other words he threw the game then?

No I wouldn't go that far. I'd say there's a difference between "throwing the game" and "prioritising". He started Dias and De Bruyne, you don't do that if you don't want to win.

I'd add one other thing that I think is important. On Steffen he said before the game "I would rather lose the game than lose the team". Steffen made a big mistake when we conceded. What was the point? I think the reasoning is "if Ederson gets injured the night before the Champions League final, do we want a keeper who's played big games and felt the pressure, or someone who's only played weak teams and will now shit himself like Loris Karius did for Liverpool?"

I think the fact we look at our strongest when we play without a recognised striker speaks volumes about Jesus.

A lot has been said over the past few seasons about him not getting an extended run in the side, but that cannot be said this season and he is levels below Aguero.

The guy has the same amount or less league goals than Ings, Callum Wilson, Neal Maupey, Harvey Barnes, Lingard, Maddison and Perreria from West Brom.

In the games when things are not going our way like against Leeds or Chelsea we need our striker to make the difference, he goes hiding every single time.

Pep knows he’s not up to the job and there’s no bigger kick in the bollocks that playing without a recognised striker whilst there is a fully fit one on the bench. It’s like when Pep played Dinho and Rodri at CB with Stones and Otamendi on the bench.

Yep, expect exactly the same team for Spurs which failed miserably against Chelsea. Gundogan for Kev obviously
