Chelsea (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Get the fuck in, we needed that!

I watched without commentary, so haven't heard any punditry which was nice.

We still look light in central midfield and struggled for a few minutes after their goal, but we adjusted by putting Kovacic a bit deeper and we kept Palmer from influencing the game.

Gvardiol looked a real threat today and could've had a hattrick in the first half.

I thought Marmoush looked good and will be a real asset and even though Khusanov had a rough start i thought he settled and did alright.

I thought a draw was fair at halftime but we played really well second half, controlled the game and fully deserved the win.

Well played City!

From a neutral perspective City grew into the match. Deserved win in the end - everyone will talk about Haaland's goal but I thought the hold up of the ball and then deft flick to put Foden through was even better - top centre forward play. That kind of touch from such a big lad is rare.

The young lad at the back making his debut had a tricky start - not sure I'd have started him so early into his City career but he came back into it and did OK, plus as City won his mistake didn't cost them the game.

Marmoush looks a handful although needs to recalibrate by half a yard so he's not offside. Seems very rapid and aggressive and will be a good addition.

Akanji seems to have regressed for some reason. He put the young lad right in the shit for the Chelsea goal.

Very important 3 points that, great result.
If Pep comes away from that today though and still refuses to set us up to play more directly, particularly against the better sides, he deserves the sack. Been calling for it for months, feel like we reluctantly did it in bits today more because it was forced upon us by it worked a charm. All 3 goals from direct football, we had at least 2 other really good chances from direct football too. It utilised the strengths of our attacking players and its so easy to do too so bloody use it!

Today felt a bit like who could gift the opposition the win more than who could win the game themselves and for once, we got out done on that after such a strong start from us too. Will take it all day. That will be the easiest game we'll have for a month so need to build on this, beat Brugge midweek and find that next gear for tougher games ahead.

We have improved beyond measure going forward in recent weeks and the defence is looking better in there one vs ones.
Khusonov - rookie mistake but he is a rookie...he also mae a good block a few minutes later and he will learn as he goes....plenty to be positive about with him despite the horror mistake.
Marmoush gives us some real raw pace upfront (different to Haaland and Doku). He was very good technically and considering it was his first game he looked very good.
Gvardiol was excellent in most things that he did - especially composed and a good attacking threat. Still needs to get closer to the winger and stop some of those crosses.

Great to see Stones back - maybe wishful thinking but I really hope we can keep him fit.

Gundo is still an issue in midfield losing the ball in dangerous areas whether its with poor control, turning when he shouldnt be or just getting out muscled.

Foden - excellent...very composed finish, he seems to be getting his mojo back again

Lots of very hard games coming up so that was a much needed win

41 pts - were straying up!!

Edit - bernardo again ran himself into the ground...his form has been poor this season but the effort never stops.....I thought he was very good all over the pitch
Agree with most of your post, but I thought Gundog had one of his better games today. He didn't move much beyond attacking midfield during attacks, & solidified defensive midfield with Kovacic. This wasn't leaving as many gaping midfield holes as we've become used to seeing.

In fairness to Pep, he was clearly signalling for Ederson to go long (just prior to Haaland's goal) and said post match that the midfielders needed to be better at looking for Marmoush's runs
