Chelsea (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I wouldn’t say that 6-point deference now secures Arsenal’s title. Actually it is far from over. Arsenal won’t win every game and they won’t always get a result from behind. If they do, they deserve the title this season. Buy I don’t think Arsenal will keep the strong performance throughout the season. There will be injuries and tiredness, especially when UCL games and other cup games make the big clubs much busier than the middle tier teams. Again, if they made through all these difficulties, they deserve the title. This city team is not under-performing currently but Arsenal is better for now. We will see at the end of season.

Hopefully Kovacic can be back early enough to be a sub in the last 10 games. Kovacic is particularly good at seal a 1:0 lead without running the legs off. A young squad’s drawbacks is they don’t know what to avoid at certain stage of the game, and they don’t know themselves’ and the team’s limitations.

It's not their 6 points that worries me.. it's us.

Not making right decisions in offense
Not getting balls through to Haaland
Not being clinical
Not making a high press
Not putting the games to bed

We have plenty of our problems and injuries too.

what kept them 'alive' was our poor decision making, and inability to score a 2nd goal.

Yep..

We're simply not not putting games to bed.

Our best XI when all is fit
Donarumma
Nunes
Dias
gvardiol
Nico
Rodri
González
Cherki
Haaland
Doku
Foden

That's a pretty good team.
It is but im not sold on a rodri nico g foden midfield or one with cherki instead of Foden.

I think ultimately foden Cherki and Nico G and Rodri should be rotating with each other quite often. We are quality numbers down.

Level 3? He had the choice of a couple o' dozen FOCs all with a wealth of experience. Mind, had he picked me I would have been off quite early for calling the ref a partial, cheating Geordie bastard.

Three things robbed us of three points - little luck up front (Erling's post shot), poor decision making as we approached and entered the Chelsea area, and the dogs' doos with the whistle.

It's alright Oliver letting the game flow and to conitnue to think he has the game under control - in the first half he could have booked two Chelsea players (we got the free kicks) but if you know as a player you are only going to concede a free kick you can carry on clattering in with one cynical tackle after another. And for those who didn't see Delap wearing a City shirt over the road he was a thug then!
There's possibly a nasty element there.

One draw at home in a game we should’ve won and you want players to be sacked, an unprofessional player back in the building and can’t add up our transfer fees.

How many players in the squad would you pick for the game against Brighton that didn't play today ?

I think we could all feel that goal was coming in that second half. The intro of Delap coupled with our injuries really gave Chelsea the impetus to push on. I put the game on mute in that injury time because I didn’t want to hear it when the goal came. It’s our own fault for being so wasteful in that first half when we dominated.

Missed the chances to put the game to bed at 2-0 - Foden and Cherki in particular made the wrong choice in the final 3rd a few times - and as we ran out of steam and bodies, we paid the penalty. Nico was blowing out of his arse for 15 mins prior to losing Gusto on his side, and the moment he did we were fuct.

I don't have any thoughts of us winning the league this season but the losses of Dias and Gvardiol for any length of time are fatal to any chances of winning something. In short, those losses are unsurviveable. We've the Derby coming up and umpteen games this month - and it looks like we are down to our last 2 Centre Halves, neither of whom make our first XI. If I'm City I'm already on the phone to Crystal Palace.

I'd rather have lost today and kept Dias and Gvardiol fit. God knows what sort of a line-up we can field on Weds.

Nothing went right for Foden today. Often caught in possession and so many passes astray. Cherki was a yard off the pace all game; and bottled a couple of challenges. Very poor.
Unlucky no to have been 3 up at half time, Erling had a deflected shot saved well and hit the inside of the post (against us they go in) and Foden should have scored but placed it wide. Second half a bit more even but we should have made more of the breaks, poor passes twice from Phil, when he only needed to square to Haaland for a tap in.

I don’t think Chelsea created much but their goal was so scrappy, and was down to O’Reilly (I think) diving in on Delap/Gusto? and got skinned, but even then it seemed we had chances to clear it.
Chelsea, just like Sunderland with a ‘yard dog’ approach, over physical and got away with it due to a lenient ref. We don’t like this approach, we don’t like the physical aggressive style and it shows. Rodri getting 96 mins was the plus from today

Maybe . Its hypothetical. We did create opprtunites and could have done much better finding the right pass but it's outrageous not to get men behind the ball last 4-6 minutes. We are far too open at times . Shut it down Pep

With Pep, it's always been the best form of defence is to attack

But looking at what he had to pick from on the bench after Ake and Khusanov had to come on because of injuries maybe he had no choice

You know what the result is not the reason why I am not happy
It's seeing pain on players' faces. Pep or the Club is asking far too much from the players because we have nothing else in the reserves

Now, who is to blame here ? Pep or the Club
Maybe Pep has lost the heart to boot out the weak and old players that won him so much glory

The squad is a mess, let's get it right here ? 4 keepers for a start ? Only 2 keepers will play all season
No natural fullbacks. No like-for-like replacement for Haaland and then the deadwood ? Phillips

How many players are available for selection for the next game ? Brighton at home
I will call it right now if Haaland, Foden, Cherki, and Silva have 30 minutes in them, we lose to Brighton
I don’t really think anyone is to blame.

The squad is just in the biggest transition it’s been in since 2008-2010, and we have not been able to keep up with the number of players needed to fill the squad with good quality right through to the depth we need it in the amount of time we’ve had to do it and the amount of money it will cost.

Plus an unusual number of our players are young. We are imbalanced age-wise in the squad if we want to be winning titles and need a few years for all the 20-24 year olds to get a bit older, more experienced, more consistent and better.

This squad isn’t ready just yet, a bit more time is needed, but it’s just one of those things, nobody is to blame as such.

The days when we were capable of shutting the game down 20 minutes before the end seem like a distant memory. There’s always a mistake in jittery looking defence and the opposition knows it.

Game handed to Chelsea in first five minutes. A nervous opposition should have been placed under massive pressure from the off. A common thread for us
