Chelsea (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Bit of an underwhelming show with a poor result as a consequence. Just like Sunderland away the creativity was sorely lacking in some promising areas. As soon as O'Reilly got turned like that we were in trouble for their goal, but he's been good overall. Injuries creeping in now as well is going to hurt us.

I wouldn’t say that 6-point deference now secures Arsenal’s title. Actually it is far from over. Arsenal won’t win every game and they won’t always get a result from behind. If they do, they deserve the title this season. Buy I don’t think Arsenal will keep the strong performance throughout the season. There will be injuries and tiredness, especially when UCL games and other cup games make the big clubs much busier than the middle tier teams. Again, if they made through all these difficulties, they deserve the title. This city team is not under-performing currently but Arsenal is better for now. We will see at the end of season.

Hopefully Kovacic can be back early enough to be a sub in the last 10 games. Kovacic is particularly good at seal a 1:0 lead without running the legs off. A young squad’s drawbacks is they don’t know what to avoid at certain stage of the game, and they don’t know themselves’ and the team’s limitations.

When you are faced with problems, you have to turn to your bench and squad, sadly today Pep would have been better looking in the Colin Bell stand
Level 3? He had the choice of a couple o' dozen FOCs all with a wealth of experience. Mind, had he picked me I would have been off quite early for calling the ref a partial, cheating Geordie bastard.

Three things robbed us of three points - little luck up front (Erling's post shot), poor decision making as we approached and entered the Chelsea area, and the dogs' doos with the whistle.

It's alright Oliver letting the game flow and to conitnue to think he has the game under control - in the first half he could have booked two Chelsea players (we got the free kicks) but if you know as a player you are only going to concede a free kick you can carry on clattering in with one cynical tackle after another. And for those who didn't see Delap wearing a City shirt over the road he was a thug then!

We win on Wednesday and it's back to 3 pts.
Red bridesmaids play red tramps so who knows.
Keep the faith. Similar things have happened in the past when January screws us because we're in all the competitions.
Come February and March we'll be firing again and reel them cockney planks in again.

Bring it on.

Can't do it all in Jan though the real problem is the overall squad

How many have contributed with mainly good performances this season?

Donna yes
Trafford not played much but a good back up
Ortega nope
Betinelli nope

Mufini nope
Dias yes
Stones nope
Braithwaite nope
Ake nope
Nouri nope
Gvardiol yes
Lewis nope
Khusanov nope
Oreilly yes

Nico G yes
Cherki erm.....
Reinjders erm.....
Nunes yes
Mukasa nope
Bobb nope
Foden yes
Phillips nope
Mciadoo nope
Rodri yes
Doku yes
Sav nope
Kovacic nope
Silva yes
Gray nope

Haaland yep
Marmoush nope
Heskey nope
Hesketh nope

There isnt much quality depth there at all, even though Rodri hasn't contributed much this season he will be a main player

By my reckoning 12 good players who have deserved their place and 2 inconsistent guys. I think Khus and Kova are good. Out of 30 odd players though thats not great.

Injuries, form and fatigue are problems for us, we are doing well to be 2nd with the injuries we keep getting, no wonder the team is fucked. We need a few more players with skills we havent got and positions where we have limited back up. Will take at least this Jan and summer I feel.
Lewis will feature at some point v Brighton ?

So we hung on then?
I'm bringing off Bernardo, not Reijinders.
Smart arse.
That’s one sub. You said his subs (plural) were terrible when two of them were forced and we had no other senior options after they had to come on.

Well he does need to find a couple of players. Perhaps Semenyo will help. But he needs one or two more . Guehi would be a very good addition.
What about a cheeky bid for Xhaka. If we need to be solid and see a game out we could then put out Rodri, Gonzalez and Xhaka.

Most concerning thing is how shattered everyone looked past the 70th min.

Had enough chances to kill the game, you don't do so, you pay, simple as.

Semenyo NEEDS to be in the squad for Brighton if we are buying him and I hope any suggestion that we delayed the transfer to allow him to play against arsenal is nonsense as it's blown up in our faces, we win the game 2/3-0 if we can sub him on after 60 mins.

Facts are Chelsea outworked us on the pitch today..

If you think we did enough today.. I disagree

We need much more effort and more courage..

And you can call me crazy but we need 1-2 more starting midfielders, one of them a DM.

Chelsea we're okay towards the final third of the game as we tired, but they really hadn't offered much before that ..... their passing wasn't brilliant, neither was their shooting, i think Palmer kicked fresh air on a couple of occasions, Pedro cocked a good chance up, and Jaoa Pedro was ineffective ... they also lost the ball numerous times .......what kept them 'alive' was our poor decision making, and inability to score a 2nd goal.

You have to give at least one of the young uns a go from the bench. It was obvious for anyone to see that everyone was looking fucked after 65-70 mins but Pep has no faith in the bench that he just leaves the attacking players on to wilt and it cost us. Mukasa couldn't have been any less effective than Foden today and would've brought vital energy to the team. I'm sure most other prem managers would've chucked one or two on today
The young lad are not supposed to be used at the crucial clutch time. It is like throwing them under the bus and see who is stronger enough to survive.

You know what the result is not the reason why I am not happy
It's seeing pain on players' faces. Pep or the Club is asking far too much from the players because we have nothing else in the reserves

Now, who is to blame here ? Pep or the Club
Maybe Pep has lost the heart to boot out the weak and old players that won him so much glory

The squad is a mess, let's get it right here ? 4 keepers for a start ? Only 2 keepers will play all season
No natural fullbacks. No like-for-like replacement for Haaland and then the deadwood ? Phillips

How many players are available for selection for the next game ? Brighton at home
I will call it right now if Haaland, Foden, Cherki, and Silva have 30 minutes in them, we lose to Brighton

Hard to take after being so dominant.

Nico G has done a phenomenal job covering Rodri, but Rodri showed levels at times today before tiring as expected.

Also thought Nunes was phenomenal, and Khush was a bright spark when he came on too.

Poor from Foden and Cherki today, getting carried away a bit and not doing the simple stuff/making the simple play.
