The club bought Khus and Reis but none have made the impact needed
Khus is an example of the haphazard, apparent toss-a-coin decision making that's been evident for a while.
When he started playing, everything picked up. Results, performance, morale, belief. Other defenders suddenly seemed to remember their job, and he was lauded on here.
He was in EVERYBODY's predicted lineup and reached near cult status in no time. Raw, of course, but his Chelsea debut said everything about his character.
A 21(?)-year-old, not speaking a word of English whose first involvement was gifting them a goal and whose second was to get booked - all in the first 5 minutes or so.
Yet by the time he was subbed he'd regrouped and walked off with head held high. That took
real character.
Then for some reason - was it the '10-game threshold' before the price went up as many thought? - out of the picture. Certainly not because of performances - in the Real Madrid tie he had Vinicius virtually in his pocket to the extent that in the end you could tell that the winger didn't even want to take him on.
Since then he's been a bit player. Sitting on the bench watching a defence often running around like headless chickens whenever it's attacked with pace - exactly his strength.
God knows what's going through his mind these days.
