Chelsea (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Said to my lad who was there it looked like an end to end slug fest on telly. Should have played possession like 2-3 years ago and passed them to death. Looked like City were mad for a second goal when it wasn’t necessary.

That's all well and good but we haven't got the players to play the passing game we used to. We are nowhere near as good at keeping possession.

People talk about Pep and him adapting his style. Load of bollocks. We play less possession football out of necessity now, not by choice. Pep would have us playing his usual game if he had the players.

And we might not win it, but things are progressing well and we have a side full of potential.

Win the title or not, my head is still spinning after getting off from the ride we all have been on in the last ten years. At that moment, your legs are not in any conversation with your head and you need somebody to help you stand up

It's all rock & roll if you know what I mean

Im glad you get my point exactly as it appears you can't criticise a player in a constructive way on here. Everything is taken out of context. Not all but some of our players are simply not at a level to win titles, challenge for domestic and European cuos, nevermind all of them together. And like it or like it not this is the level Manchester City have put themselves at. Long gone are the 80's and 90's if being shit. I really worry Rodri is going to look at this and say you know what ive won everything here and this squad isn't good enough for a few more years and he will leave.
fear not, there’s a few of us sensible souls left on the forum.

I think a few are just struggling to accept how things have changed.

Rodri AND Haaland are a concern. That said, i cant fault the club in going in for semenyo.

The club still has the ambition, it’s the decisions made over the last three years has been broadly poor.

Fingers crossed it improves.

Also, Foden Cherki Silva Dias

This Christmas Period, the fixtures have been ugly towards City, the 2 away games against strong teams that play with the passion of the crowd right behind them

Chelsea had 5 days rest before this and we didn’t even have 72 hours!

That in itself is unfair for me and we have been shafted. We now have Brighton 72 hours later when they have had an extra day!

We ran our bollocks off today. 120km. We are top of the KM covered table this season.

It certainly isn’t lack of effort hampering us.

We are working hard enough but not smart enough. Seeing out a game with 2 mins to go for example. Just sit 10 men behind the ball. Park the bus.

Both these last 2 games could have been wins with a bit more luck.

I fear with the injuries and schedule though that we could derail this month unless we bring in reinforcements.

I know it’s only rock & roll, but I like it.

And then having to play Chelsea who had 5 days rest compared to our 3

Yeah we got seriously stitched up with the festive programme of matches

Agreed about Haaland as well. A 10yr contract and we've obviously told him we're going to build a team to challenge and make him the central focus and superstar but if go into a third season of winning nothing then the pressure to keep him will only intensify. Its a big second half of the season for us in more ways than one.

Spot on I sensed it too. Sometimes your gut feeling tells you they will score, and they did. Biggest issue was game management in injury time. We used to take it into the corner but justgave silly balls away that
gave them possesion.
I'm not arsed about us taking it to the corners, but I'm seriously pissed off with the way we gave away silly balls throughout the second half.

Worst game of football i've seen in a long time, both sides look beyond average.

Sadly some players let everyone down tonight.

Fair play to Bernie, Nunes who were the best of hte bunch for me a few others to did ok.

Hope Gvardiols injury isnt too serious.

Referee was a joke.
“Worst game of football i've seen in a long time.”
Sure

Lot of good points.

That being said, defence needs a proper overhaul.

Ake and stones need to make way for a proper experienced player to directly challenge gvardiol and Dias. If the new player is any good he will take a start place and can rotate with the two above or gvardiol can go to LB on occasion.

The club bought Khus and Reis but none have made the impact needed and now we are right back to a defensive injury crises. Ait nowhere since he joined. Obviously he away now to play international

The elephant in the room is Ake and stones. Buy a proper world class defender to replace in the summer.

Bobb and sav must also go. Step by step we are getting a proper decent team again. Few issues still with us and no point pretending otherwise. You don’t have to take anyone’s word but rather look at the results and performances.

Nowhere near previous standards of excellence. Decisions need to be much better for that to change.

David KDB Gundo agree
