Chelsea (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

We didnt deserve to win it..the longer the game went on the more Chelsea got into the game...their goal was coming from early in the second half - we completely ran out of steam in our midfield area in particular...1-1 was a fair result in the end
They only had 1 shot in the 1st half.
Neto missed the sitter beginning of the 2nd half and we got away with that.
They didn't get another shot away (Delap from the tight angle) until the 76th minute and a nothing shot on 89 minute.
4 fucking shots in 90 mins. The goal wasn't coming particularly albeit they looked threatening at times and likewise we had our moments as well in the 2nd half ffs.

We could/should have won before the salvo and 1.4xg right at the end. Simple as that IMO.

My issue is with the defenders bought last season. The whole point was to use them in these types of difficult periods. Nowhere to be seen. Only for OReilly and nunes we would be in a proper fucked up situation(midfielders) after spending a fortune on young cbs. The transfer decisions have been, not working but certainly not the solution. We didn’t know that then or maybe we did. Pep didn’t want inexperienced cbs. He said as much, Soriano pushed for youth. It was not the way. Again, we Did know that stones and Ake were both crocked and we again took the chance that they could play some games. Mistake after mistake, understandable but still a recruitment mistake. Buying “could” turn into class instead of class is hit and miss. Donna, we bought class and it shows every match. Need the same for defence now and the wing.

A midfield of nico and rodders has huge potential. No wonder we after a younger player in Anderson.

Pep has been consistently plugging holes. Only for his coaching and ability to convert players we would be in a far worse situation. It gets abused when we need to make the financials work or we make a bad buy.

We can't seem to pass our way out of trouble like we used to!
Firstly, we have a goalkeeper with suspect feet and secondly we fall for the “trap the full back” ploy every time, especially with Gvardiol & O’Reilly in the left back corner!

We generally fart around too much with the heavy press these days when we simply don’t have the manpower at the moment. We need to start hitting the ball to any of the three forward positions, and letting the players fight for it 50-60 yards from our goal, not 10-15 yards! Almost gave up a goal with it today!

Khusanov and Reis could both be top defenders, but Pep isn’t interested in developing them!

Simpson-Pusey looked OK, but we shipped him out for experience and he’s not getting any. Hardwood-Bellis looked like he was going to be the future, but then we sold him for peanuts and he’s had a decent career.

I realize that when you’re up at the top, you don’t have the luxury of bedding in every kid that comes along, but we should be able to carry some of them on the bench to get minutes. Other clubs manage it!

Reis and Khusanov should both be in the first team squad every game.

Need first team players not squad. Again, could be top but could be not!

Pep ain’t the blame here it’s the players handed to him.

I thought we should have been out of sight but that's the risk if you keep spurning openings.
I'm thought Chelsea were unimpressive and didn't buy the battling point thing at all,
I did think pre game our openness at the back might cost us against a talented side but in reality we should have wiped the floor with them

Just got home. What a waste of a fucking day driving for that shite.

Even more annoyed now than full time.

They basically played a carabao cup starting 11 and had a fucking PE teacher as manager and that’s the best we can serve up. What an embarrassing way to throw away any hope of a league title chase. If Pep has any bollocks throw in some kids on Wednesday and both give some of these big names a rest and a kick up the arse, we have a world class academy that 99% of Europe wants each summer but we can’t put them on and instead run the starting 11 into the ground.

Awful result.

Poor decisions and fatigue the big problem today, the latter probably being a factor in the former. Should have finished them off but having not done so, should have seen the game out; did not handle the added time well at all.

Losing our two first choice CB’s was dreadful for the game and potentially for future games. Had Pep not lost Dias and Josko, he could have used Ake and Khusanov tactically to help see the game out.

Problem is our midfield
Phils not influencing games and with Bernardo along side him we cant afford to carry two midfielders in the premier league.
Positives were Rodri and Khusanov
And Nunes is settling into his wingback role.
Chelsea subs improved them.
Our subs weakened us except Khusanov.
I expected a top 3 finish at the start of the season and still do.
Hopefully some silverware in one of the cups. CTID

Second half Chelsea looked decent and worked harder than us. Their breaks were rapid whilst ours were generally turgid (we haven't been great on the break for a long time).
Rodri looked better today. A bit more like his former self but we still gave away possession far too often. Against a decent team like Chelsea, its likely to cost you at least 1 goal.

Another game that feels like a loss.

A tiny bit of luck and we sneak two wins, fine margins

Reis is a top prospect, did well when he played, and didn’t need to be shipped off.

I’m not going to get into a “Pep this, Pep that” duscussion, but his stubbornness to wards a very tight squad that he plays has cost us dearly the last two seasons.

A tight 16 is great if you don’t get any injuries, but we have Stones, Kovacic, Dias, Bobb, Savinho, Gvardiol, and Gonzales all injured and a £50M England international midfielder who might as well be working in the Club Store, so….we are a smidge light!

Today, when he turned around and saw nothing he wanted to put on the field, with at least 3 more players gassed or crocked and 2 more subs available, who is that on?

We have players that we paid good money for out on loan, but nothing on the bench.

Seems like everyone else in football appreciates a 25 man squad, but our resident genius apparently doesn’t like to tell players they’re not playing if he can only have 11 on the field and 9 on the bench. And, don’t ask me how I feel when we have two keepers on the bench but no forwards who run out of fingers before they finish counting their appearances!

Dreadful 2nd half, we just haven't got the squad
We were brilliant in the 1st half but we got tired because we played on Thursday and Chelsea had 2 extra days rest. I predicted we would lose this game for this reason. We had opportunities to go to 2-0 but didn't take them, and we did not have the energy to manage the game out. I sit in the front rows, and I could see that players like Foden, Bernardo and Cherki were exhausted.

Chelsea were poor and it looked like we would get the 3 points. I am more concerned by the injuries than the result. They could be devastating. Arsenal always have had an edge over us wrt squad depth. They have had injuries to top players, and survived. I think this relates to where we are in team building. They are at the end of years of investment in their playing squad, whereas City are re-building. I think City are way ahead of the curve, but we are also helped by the collapse of other big clubs. Liverpool, Man Utd, Spurs, Chelsea, Newcastle have been awful this season. The trends that were apparent last season in this league, have got worse. That is to our advantage.

Not under pep they won’t . We are now back to where we started last January and no defence even though we fucking bought 3 of them and sent 2 away and won’t play the other .atm we are in big trouble and the next 25 days will define our sesson. We need senenyo as our wingers are bang average but we also need a striker as we have no cover for erl and now we have no cover in defence either as we are playing a ball playing midfielder at right back and a another midfielder at left back . Season is not over but we need to get this window right .

Fucking criminal mate that’s what it is and sorry but pep should fuck off with this small squad bollox and di what every other manager does and while he preaches this small squad bulkshit he needs to renenber that if was a full squad that where centurions and also domestic treble and if j remember rightly we also had a good bench in the treble season .
