Delighted with the win, it was a win at any cost game today and so to do that is all that matters but there’s plenty of concerns still. Anybody that says we don’t get any luck needs to watch that first half. How we went in at halftime ahead is a complete mystery. For the first 30 minutes they were comfortably the better side and deserved to be more than 1-0 up in truth. a complete fluke got us back in the game and turned it in our favour. Having said that, how we didn’t put the game to bed before half time after numerous errors from them at the back is exactly the problem we’ve had all season.
I have little issue with our defence today, thought Stones and Dinho were excellent, barely got any protection from midfield but both put in numerous great tackles blocks and interceptions. their attack is very dangerous, we’re going to concede chances but we handled them fairly well.
it’s our inefficiency upfront that’s the issue once more, as it has been for the last few months now.
We don’t capitalise on situations where you’d expect a goal it’s either poor finishing which is annoying and shouldn’t be happening from the world class talent we have but it’s kind of acceptable, but it’s the hesitation and poor decision making that gets up people’s backs. We seem hell bent on not shooting unless it’s an open net and there’s nobody in 10 yards to pass to, it doesn’t matter who it is they’re all guilty of it which leads me to believe it’s a tactical thing.
In addition to not taking chances our play is just far too slow and rigid at the minute, a lack of pace is really hurting our creativity but there’s also an issue with Rodri/gundogan not moving the ball as quickly and not going forward enough like Fernandinho has done for years. It’s a common trend that we’ve seen for a good portion of the season and if we don’t change it it’s going to cost us more as the season progresses.
Away from the pitch, Chelsea really do have some absolute low-life fans, kicking off all over the shop for absolutely no legitimate reason and not just handbags there were flurries of punches thrown towards the fans/stewards and no police in sight as per the norm at the Etihad nowadays.
Was also hilarious to watch a guy try and smash up a seat seemingly to throw and fail spectacularly. It was by no means all their fans and it’s wrong to label them all, some were genuinely quite decent and seemed embarrassed by the few but they certainly have a good amount of them.
