Chelsea (H) | Post-Match Thread

"It's that simple" if you are a daft, blinkered, biased, ignorant football fan with no ability to comprehend the bigger picture or to understand the modern game.
There's no right or wrong answer. It's all about opinions, & opinions are like arseholes..... Everyone's got one.

Personally, I'm not the gambling sort. As I said, experience has taught me to deal with what's in front of me, & the future will take care of itself.

If all of this is about the CL final, what you gonna say if we're defeated? It's as distinct a possibility as us winning. So again, PERSONALLY I'd rather we'd have treated Saturday's match as the potential title winning match it was, & then spend the next 20+ days celebrating being double winners, & potential CL winners too, whilst preparing for the final.

If you find that too difficult to unpick, visualise & comprehend, that's your business. There are plenty of others who like me can see both sides to this. Some agree, others don't, so don't get it twisted fella, it's just a game. :-|

Your opinion v Pep's opinion.

I'll have a think.

He speaks the truth in this subject.
Pep rightly looks at the season as a whole and utilises his squad accordingly. The only game I've been really disappointed in over the last 6 months was the FA Cup semi final. The other degeats, although never nice, haven't bothered me too much.
he doesnt have to be such a patronising twat , devalues what he says

The result pissed me off. The performance was frustrating but not bad by any means. The ref was poor. The rotation was essential!

We're going to have won the league by 10pm on Friday so everyone chill.

I reckon 2 possibly 3 of that starting eleven against Chelsea will play in the final. As good as Chelsea are we have to be confident our strongest eleven will be too much for them. We could've been two up at half time with a near second eleven, let's not panic

I feared he would change the team dramatically.
I think the players who played needed the game time.
He gave them a big game. To keep them happy and to keep the harmony and to keep players fresh.
I’m guessing players will want to play in the euros too. That is a lot of squad players who have to play.
Otherwise they will poison the dressing room.
I can think of a dozen reasons to play the team we did. And only one for fielding out best team.
We should have won anyway. It’s that simple. ;-)
I also think about pep wanting the hundred points but also wanting to use Foden so he qualified for a medal.
This is why I suggested a mix & match, similar to what Chelsea did. I don't subscribe to this 'keeping our cards close to our chest' narrative. I think we all know to within 2 players who will be in the CL final starting 11.

The only positions I see up for debate are Rodri/Fernandinho & Zinchenko/Cancelo. Barring injury, or a seriously dramatic rise or fall in form, the rest pick themselves.

Personally, I would have erred on the side of caution on Saturday, & ticked off another mission as complete. I understand Pep's motives for doing what he did, & to be fair we almost pulled it off, because imo, we handed Chelsea that match, rather than them grasping it & trotting out the valiant victors.

As for the players selected on Saturday, the probable CL Final line up has formed itself after a long, hard, gruelling season. Only 11 can start, so those on the bench can't really complain if someone who has out-performed them over a season, is selected ahead of them for the final.

We're close to the end of the season, & our players minds will soon be turning to the Euros. They'll have the summer to digest this weirdest of seasons, & how to approach season 2021-2022. If anyone decides to spit their dummy out, Manchester City Football Club, isn't the place for them. Pep's words, & my sentiments too.

Mate, we've been near enough playing every 3 days for the last 9 months. Everyone's aware you can't flog the same team of players for every match in top class football, but more of a mix & match was required Saturday.

Sterling, Aguero/Jesus, Cancelo, Rodri, Mendy could all have done with a run out, but a mix & match approach is what was needed, NOT wholesale changes including many players currently out of form, or returning from injury, especially against an in form Chelsea side in what was essentially a title decider.

I'd rather have rested who needed resting, & play our strongest 11 with a familiar formation, & got the job done. Then we could have rested & rotated who we liked for the next 20+ days with the Carabao Cup & League in the bag, with just the CL final to concentrate on.

I like many other fans feared Pep would do what he did on Saturday, & we also feared a repeat of Wembley a few weeks earlier because of it. We should deal with what's in front of us to the best of our ability, then prepare for what lies in wait further down the road. It's that simple mate. :-|

If only you were the fucking manager. Jesus Christ.

We’re going to win the league, we’ve won the league cup and now we’re in a CL final.

We could end up with one of the greatest seasons in the history of European football and that Chelsea game will mean absolutely naff all if we win that final.

Unfortunately people like you lack the self awareness to comprehend the bigger picture.

are you mad?
this is Pep the genius we are talking about here. you simply can't post shit like that on here...even if you are bang on the fucking money .

the panenka ,
well well well, it is thought the panenka to have been introduce to the world by antonin panenka, hence the name , but according to wiki, it is believed to have been pioneered by none other than billy meredith 70 years earlier , now i havent got a clue, but i think i know a man who might have more information @Gary James , do you know anything about this gary ?

edit, apologies ,to mr james but he has written about this before on twitter, also it is believed that meredith was also involved in a two man penalty as well according to dr alexander jackson.

Haha! Imagine still trying to call Pep out when we are on the cusp of our greatest ever season.
A season that's been possible due to the fact he's done exactly the opposite of what you would like him to do.

To be honest he makes a lot of valid and justified points, what don't you agree with?
Any of it, there were very good reasons for Pep to leave out the players he did, but for a missed penalty we would probably have won but losing won't hurt us. The suggestion that if you can live with a loss because you can see the bigger picture you aren't a proper fan. Okay our penalty record is shambolic and Agueros was especially bad, but many players have had a go and for some reason none seem that good at it, not sure exactly what we do about that apart from hope whoever we buy to replace Aguero is good at them.

We may well have lost with the full team but Pep tried to be smart and it backfired in my eyes and other supporters.
However in the long run the damage isn't great.
Just don't get the full logic of his thinking, 1 game away from winning the league, surely pick the best team win the league, then rest. 9 changes, Ake and Mendy in and no midfield, it was carnage at times then you get Aguero arguing with Raz and then trying a party trick. It smacked of a testimonial at times. We shoot ourselves in the foot so many times still.
Don't underestimate the edge now Chelsea have over us in the final.

They have no edge for the final. None at all.
