I’m not trying to convince you one way or another mate - I find the whole striker/no striker debate fascinating and see both sides of it.
I’ve not watched it back either but I do recall one first half when Grealish I think put it across so point taken on those situations. The flip side is losing the extra body in the middle of the park - horses for courses and all that. The way pep seems to want to play at the moment is he’ll want a striker-cum-midfielder or midfielder-cum-striker rather than an out and out striker.
To add to your point about how a striker would help - we could get forward quicker because that is frustrating when playing against a team that defends like Chelsea when they finally get the balls to cross the half way line and we win it back we build slowly giving them time to get back and organise. But flip side is does that extra body in the middle help us in the transition by giving an easier pass rather than punt forward and potentially give away possession- which is a lot of what happens to teams we play against. The opposition for the most part set out to stop us rather than playing their own game (although some teams playing style like Chelsea, wolves and the such are effective against us) - whatever players we have the first port for the opposition will be to negate whatever threats they pose. I do get the feeling Pep loves this type of mental challenge which is why he might be here a good while yet!
Pep has made me think about the game in ways I’d never have considered and I only watch from the stands - imagine being in the dugout trying to outwit him - he is a god damn genius and we are very blessed.
