This was on Facebook., no author but obviously a City fan. He/she is absolutely right.
October 2016, Pep Guardiola is three months in the job and City have just lost 4-0 to Barcelona making them four games without a win.
During post match conference he’s asked if he feels he will need to start changing the way he plays given his results with City so far…
“I WON 21 TITLES IN 7 YEARS PLAYING THIS WAY, I WOULD RATHER QUIT AND GO HOME THAN CHANGE”
Peps defence of his philosophy was made in no uncertain terms.
Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas insisted that Peps City were “decades away from getting anywhere near the level of his former Barcelona team”…
But on he went, getting City to play his way. On he went, winning title after title, breaking record after record, crushing the opinions of the naysayers one after another.
Centurions, Dom Quad Fourmidables, back to back titles in multiples competitions, three in a row league titles, Treble Winning Champions of the World.
Peps philosophy won City the lot. He is the single Greatest acquisition this club has ever made.
He’s the Greatest football coach in the history of the sport, no one else comes close despite however many millions of others try to argue otherwise.
They absolutely hate that we love him, they absolutely hate that he loves City, they absolutely hate that he’s unrivalled in his achievements.
There will never be another like him, and we are quite simply not worthy to have ever had a man of his calibre not only manage our team, but give every fibre of his being to our club.
He could have had a much easier life elsewhere, he could have done a few seasons here to say he’d done the Premier League then moved on, he could have replied “no comment” to all the shit that’s been thrown at us year in year out, but no, that’s not who he is. He’s passionately defended us at every opportunity, he’s doubled down on his trust and belief in our owners, he’s called out those who want us dead by name and he’s going nowhere in a hurry.
His legacy at City and in the sport of football itself will be spoken of for centuries.
What a time to be alive, long may it continue.
