Chelsea-Liverpool, United-Leeds, Brighton-Palace all off, rest of the games on (pg 128)

From the Beeb:-

"A decision on weekend Premier League and EFL fixtures will be made after a review of the official mourning guidance, plus consultation with other sports and the Department for Culture Media and Sport.

It is also scheduled to be the opening weekend of the Women's Super League and the Premiership Rugby season, while the Great North Run is due to take place on Sunday.

The Irish FA has announced that all football in Northern Ireland scheduled for this weekend will not take place.

The government's national mourning guidance states cancelling or postponing sports fixtures is not obligatory and "at the discretion of individual organisations", including on the day of the state funeral."

Let people do it in their own way, if they want to go to watch football then allow them to do so.

There will be enough opportunity for those wishing to mourn her to do so, but that doesn't need to be made compulsory or at the expense of people who are less concerned and broadly want to get on with their normal lives (of which I think there are a significant number).

Just in: Liverpool have demanded the next two weeks fixtures to be cancelled. In the meantime their first team will jet off to sunny Dubai to a training camp to allow members of their first team to come back from injuries.

and lets hope these people that dont care and want to get on with their normal lives will go into work if there is a "bank holiday" yeah like fuck.

We could be looking at the next two rounds of Premier league fixtures getting postponed. The funeral is next Saturday and there is no way football will played next weekend so, together with what's expected tomorrow that's gonna be one hell of a fixture pile up somewhere down the line.

I'd be surprised if the Premier League games are called off - the schedule's already very very tight.
The only sensible move is not to play on the day of the funeral. I suppose a lot depends on which day that is. It could be a Monday which would have little impact or a Saturday (as with Princess Diana). Hopefully they will play tomorrow.

Surely calling the games off will add to an already down nation!
Maybe if the world Cup wasn't in December they might have had some breathing space but with it already condensed I think they got no other option but to carry on.
What better way to celebrate the Queen than have full stadiums paying their respect and holding a drink up and having her life celebrated by thousands and thousands.
