Nah, not having that Tosin looks quality , Garcia and Selina have a chance under Pep and Nacho without a shadow of a doubt

Garcia maybe - but possibly too lightweight. Selina looked poor to me today and nacho is decent but would rather have tevez or dzecko up front. We have really regressed.

This thread is either full of drama queens or rags,i can't decide
Most agreed with throwing this game and letting the kids play so whats the problem now? we were never going to win

I didn't agree. I never agreed. I thought it was a fucking stupid idea and I said so. We were never going to win the CL. Our objective has been to improve in it, year on year, and we have done so by topping the group. We had two chances of silverware this year and we've just binned one of them... the larger one. Liverpool will doubtless raise their game next weekend and that's our season gone with no trophies again. Our inept manager would normally have got sacked last season, so he's determined to make sure it goes out on a low this season.

Isn't it odd when one minute people are outraged about Shearer and Lineker having a pop, whilst mirroring their attitude, opinions and sentiments?
Bigger picture thinking for me, and that's not to say we'll win the CL (that would take an enormous amount of luck at this stage) or beat Kiyv and Liverpool in our next two matches but surely in terms of progress for the season, we had to do what we did today.
Imagine he played Vinny/Sergio and either got injured - I'm not sure that would've been good for those with a short fuse, anger management issues or a high blood pressure on here.
As it stands, we've given ourselves the best possible chance of of getting through a very tough away trip in the CL, whilst still having enough in the tank for Wembley.
I don't think many fans would argue with playing a weakened team today to increase our chances for important games to follow

I do find it ironic though that in the name of preserving the physical integrity of our team v Kiev and Liverpool, we'll almost certainly start Toure

Absolute shite, how Demecelis is still playing for us after his display against Leicester is a joke, pathetic from City playing a load of kids absolute shite baling out of a competition

we've known pretty much for 2 weeks what kind of team we were gonna put out,Pellegrini all but said it,you've been naming daft line ups all week yet when he actually names a daft line up some of you seem to be in a state of shock, its as if he's called your bluff.....

No problem with today but now he has to walk the walk. He binned today's game for the next two games so no excuses. Loses both and then everyone has the right to question.

And what about the season?
minimum 7 days rest. it is impossible to play high intensity rugby more than once a week.

This needs to be put to bed.

Football is such high stakes that you simply cannot afford to have players playing at 98%. Thats all it is, a 2% difference, you could theoretically get away with it against Kiev. But why risk it, especially considering Kompany, Silva and Aguero all struggle with injuries.

Pellegrini done the right thing today. Either way he was going to get pilloried.
It was a brave thing to do to naming that team. He didn't expect the senior professionals he put in to play like guys who wouldn't make the EDS team

Some people seem to miss the point today

We were made to play this game today after requesting it to be played either Friday or yesterday and were told to fuck off

If it was Rags, Liverpool, Arsenal they would have agreed

This was the club putting 2 fingers up at the FA and BBC and finally grew a pair of balls IMO

We have CL in the Ukraine not fucking Paris and then a final to play followed by an away game at anfield

Fair play by the club today

No. The only people losing out today were us fans and the club having a chance of winning more silverware.

Who decided to go into the season with only two recognised senior strikers? Who decided to go throughout the season with a reduced squad but allow good quality players to go out on loan? There was always going to be fixture congestion because we should be competing on all four fronts. He can whinge all he wants about having injuries, but he is responsible for having a squad strong enough to compete.

That is Pellegrini's job. Which he gets paid handsomely for. All this gentleman bullshit gets on my tits. I want to see some grit, the guy is so far out of his depth it is frightening. He looks like a rabbit in the headlights every single game.

Defending some of his decisions this season is impossible.

If we weren't getting Pep next season I would be inconsolable about what is happening right now. I'm a bit concerned about what that might have done to some of these talented young lads today.

I think MANY fans would argue Marvin. Prioritising a tournament you cannot possibly win, over one which you could very possibly win, is a pretty stupid idea. And apart from anything else, had he prioritised both, we might have got away without injuries and been able to play our best side in both. He eliminated that possibility by fielding cannon fodder.

Disagree on your assessment of Pelle today. Of the last 4 Chelsea goals, 3 were down to shit defending and/or goalkeeping and the fifth was a total fluke. Pelle has been told to prioritise the CL since his arrival and his hand today was forced by number of injuries and the long trip to Kiev and back ahead of the Cap 1 Cup.

Trouble is that confidence and attitude in the club is poor at present and we are the train wreck that was Chelsea until Guus arrived.

MP doesn't have the nous to motivate a bunch of players many of which are past their use by date anyway and was too stubborn to bring in youth or a fresh face for some meaningful game time so they were better equipped to handle games like today or one or two in January.

The players have given up on the season and have given up on MP and its pretty clear MP should have gone in the summer whether Pep had agreed to join us or not.

Try again. Agree, there's no pleasing some of the reactinaries on here.

Saw enough in Garcia to know he's got a real chance of making it. Physical size is irrelevant when your brain and feet move as quickly as his.

Surely 2nd choice keeper should be a up and coming keeper from eds can't do no worse then willy. joe hart kept pressure on shay given eventually taking over eds player pushing for no 1 and no fighting to keep his place in the team

We won't win the CL, it's fucking absurd that anybody thinks we will , he goes all fucking season hardly playing any youth then puts six in in one game, sums the fucking idiot up in one game.

He said as soon as the tie was scheduled for today at 4.00 he had no choice but to play a weakened team and therefore no one should have been surprised when he did.

Agree totally. The only problem now is that he's made a rod for his own back. Picture next monday if we've lost in Kiev and the scousers turn us over at Wembley (both perfectly possible). Pellegrini will get slaughtered in the press (and on here) and at the next news conference; "Well Manuel; you played a number of youngsters at Chelsea in order to rest your senior players to give you a better chance against Kiev and Liverpool, yet you've lost both of those games now. Did you misjudge the quality of your side?" I hope, for his sake, that we do the business in the net two games, I really do.

Why do they need a rest for fuck's sake?

Athletes have races every 3 or 4 days in competition season, tennis players play games every 3 or 4 days during competition season, often for 3 and 4 hours a game. This 'rest' things is a complete joke IMO. Do rugby players get rested? Do they fuck!

Looking at Sale's fixtures they don't play more than once a week Like rugby football is a contact sport, unlike athletics, not many races last 90 minutes their competive season is shorter than a football season in which most top class players get about a month off, if they are lucky. It's not "a rest" it's recovery without proper recovery injuries result. Then there is the travelling lots of air travel which isn't good for recovery a lot of players shot off after PL games to international duty.

I actually enjoyed watching this game more than I have our first team of late.

Very impressed with all the youth today even more Tosin and Fapala who I wasn't expecting it from, it was as expected from the rest, very good technically and a lot of pitch covered.

For me the negative of the game was the senior players apart from Zabba, Willy full stop, Demichelis scared me from start to finish and was outshone by an 18 year old. Kolarov for me was caught ball watching for the Costa goal and I feel he doesn't trust the youth players, I also thought that in pre season. Fernando did OK in general but then costs us a goal and is just not close to the retired level.

After watching today's game I think we don't need a centre back in the summer, I think Mangala has shown enough when playing with Kompany to say under Pep he could be a decent player at least for another season. In the meantime Tosin going out on Loan for first team football for a season would leave us with Vinny, Nic, Denayer and Mangala.

He knew this would be his last season before it commenced and has managed accordingly.

He should have gone at the end of last season.

I can see us finishing outside the top four this season but that shouldn't stop us from rejuvenating the squad into one that can and will play far better football , defend much better than we have in the past two seasons and challenge for the premiership more effectively than we have in the past two seasons.

We are better placed than most to do it even if we are not in the Chumps League next season as Spurs and Leicester have shown this season.

If Arsenal were not in the Europe at all this season they probably would have the title wrapped up by now as mentally fragile they still are.
