the problem is we have ray and stevie as centre backs

Haha! I know it has been discussed on this thread by others but I really wish he'd give Vincent a chance to prove his fitness. He may not fully trust his fitness and therefore may not see him as being part of the future but at some point prioritising matches now has to be part of the plan rather than always looking to the future. Kompany is so far ahead of everyone else at the club defensively, I just don't see how he hasn't been worth taking the chance on at some point. Fuck knows how we find someone as good as him in the summer but we need to because we will never win the league with our current centre backs.

I reckon both teams would settle for a point, so it could turn out to be a damp squib.

Do you think anyone really cares if he does get injured now?
I do totally understand your point, but he looks set to be gone in the summer with able replacements coming in. However right now he is the only option we have as a leader with a physical presence in the back 4 and I'd throw him in simply because things are getting desperate right now
I just cannot believe the recruitment system in this club has allowed us to get so, so handicapped at the back. There is not a single player we can count on anymore in our own half of the pitch, so just throw Kompany in and if he gets injured, on his head be it. Too much sentiment now and he has been fit for over a month, no point gently positioning him back in when we are in a do or die situation for the top 4

I completely understand your thought process. Nonetheless, he's like a ticking time bomb. If he plays and gets injured, doesn't it still make it harder to win as there is no one else that can be relied on as you pointed out. It's a tou situation, if he plays and comes out unscathed and the defence plays better, then wonderful. A lot of ifs. I'm not going to think about it. Will wait for the team selection and watch steadfastly regardless of who is playing. We can only push them on till then end. After that, those that need to go will go.

With the back four being garbage, I'm at a loss to see why we can't just start Kompany and if he breaks down, he breaks down. I'd even play Yaya at Centre half at the moment. He's done it before and could probably still do a better job.

They'd breeze past the current Yaya if he played there. He's not the Barcelona or younger Yaya. That's suicide at the moment. Only thing they can do is try with the players available. Zaba is fit. Sagna is injured. We'll see if he's fit enough for tomorrow. Against Hazard, he may not last the 90. Maybe Dinho as a contingency plan for the RB position. It's clear for all to see. Surgery on team, especially the back line will happen

Predictions:

-Pep will go with a crazy formation, probably three at the back with Navas at RWB
-It will turn out to work really well but our forwards will miss almost every chance
-Hazard will score an incorrectly awarded penalty to put Chelsea 1-0 up.
-We'll equalise via Sané, who will be the only attacker to look bothered.
-De Bruyne will finish with one assist which people will say makes up for his 60% pass accuracy
-He'll also hit the post twice
-Cahill will score a late winner after Clichy fails to clear from a corner.
-We'll make one substitution, Zabaleta on for Navas in the 89th minute, despite desperately needing a goal.

Seems like you received the script or came from the future. Do you mind sharing lottery numbers?

Who knows how it will pan out !

That would be stupid for Chelsea. They have to win. If Spurs win at Swansea, and Chelsea City is a draw then the gap to Spurs would be 5 points, and it would be up in the air again. Chelsea haven't been under pressure all season, but imagine if they draw tonight and SPurs win. I doubt any Chelsea fan would settle for a point. Of course it's fine if Spurs slip up, but they can't rely on that

How can we get anything out of this game with our defence? And if we do create chances, are we going to take them. We were the better team in soome ways in the home game, but we're so inefficient in both boxes. Problems but no solutions. The manager keeps trying solutions as he must, but I suspect there are none short of getting the cheque book out again

Only marginally more scary than Zabba against Hazard. One will be out of position all the time the other will be murdered for pace.

It's seems we both are thinking the same. The Arsenal game, especially the second half, Navas was caught out occasionally. Yes, he's quick, however, if you can't show your man down the line or stop his runs what's the point? The RB situation is dire thinking about it. Would you rather see Zaba murdered for pace chasing back or Navas being caught of position chasing back? Pep may end up playing with 3 at the back but only time will tell.

Many as usual wouldn't admit it. But this clearly proves the majority who blamed Pellars and argued we'd have won the league with a decent manager were wrong.

1. We have a more than decent manager now.
2. We have even better tent than we did last year, yet we are pretty much about where we were last year.

Perhaps it wasn't just Pellars after all :-)
We actually won a cup last year so unless we get top four and win the FA Cup it will go down on paper at least as a worse season. However, we must view this in an evolutionary context.
This is supposed to be a transformation to take us to the next level. We will have a much better idea this time next year as to whether it is likely to be a successful transformation.

McGrath......some player for a crock & PISS HEAD !!

Vinny is twice the player, twice the leader & TWICE THE MAN.

Please show a bit more respect !
Perhaps you should display a bit more knowledge about football ability. Despite his rag background, demons and injury problems McGrath was an outstanding defender.
One fully deserving to be mentioned along side VK. Two greats!

I would like to see this team

.....................Willy.................
........Kompany Kolorov Stones.
...... Fernandinho.. Fernando..
...Navas ..KdB...Merlin ..Sane..
.........Agueroooooooooooo...

Navas will play like a defensive MF covering the right side of our defence. KdB will be whipping balls across the six yard box so Aguero and Sane will have to gamble by getting into the box.
Sterling can come on when we are 3 goals to the good.
We need to cover their fast attacks especially from Pedro and Hazzard do Stones and Ferny2 will have to concentrate.

3 at the back, and I would bet good money on that being next years preferred system
All games besides the Leicester game, where Pep simply got personnel wrong against Leicesters long ball counter, we have controlled games and possession excellently with 3 at the back
In the initial game against Chelsea where we lost 3-1, we were awesome for an hour with the system and should have had the game won,
We had a spell with Gabriel where 4 3 3 was perfect, and 3 at the back was shelved, but its time we reverted back with the injuries and woeful defensive application of late

Ideally I would go with Stones Kompany Kolarov
But Otamendi will start, god help us.

^^^ this. How many centre halves could mark Baggio completely out of a game with a dislocated shoulder while they were still pissed drunk from the night before?

Fully agree if we are to win the league again we need good replacemenst in the summer for Vinny (assuming he's done) and Yaya. Not an easy task is it when you think about it?
