Of course it's about points. Especially with half a season gone. Points win prizes.
Playing 'entertaining' football also doesn't make one team 'better' than another. As an aside, if you genuinely believe we're playing entertaining football we must be watching different games.
And this bit - We were all over them for 80% of the match - turn it in mate. Official possession stats were 60/40 to us, shots on target 5/4 to us. Hardly representative of what you're suggesting.
60/40 actually used to mean proof of 'all over them' in a match & shots on target are pretty meaningless stats as is proven by the fact we lost by two clear goals in spite of having more. In years gone by, Aguero would have torn them a new arsehole with the same positions, as Costa would have the other way around. But Aguero now is not proper Aguero, so far.
Where Chelsea are clearly better than us, so far, as you say, is making the best of their opportunities, & especially if they get out of jail, which they did superbly in that game.
They didn't defend better than us in that game though & don't deserve credit for it, we ripped them apart, & in the game v Spurs, they could & probably should also have been dead & buried, their defending was all over the place, but they ended up clear winners in both, by being clinical when their chance came & exploiting the weak spot in their opponents, better than the oppo exploited theirs.
If they keep that level of efficiency up, they will run away with the league & fully deserve it. Two of the goals they scored v City, were fantastic finishes & Hazard's was pretty high up there too. That's quality football, irrespective of our shit defending. But it's not so perfect in every area as the results & some of the praise, suggests.
Also I've rarely seen a team maintain that level of efficiency over a full season, especially when it's largely dependant on a few top players being in fantastic form week in week out. I would expect more than one iffy spell to hit Chelsea between now & May, if this season follows many others. Then it's down to whether their opponents can cash in.
The remarkable thing this season imo, is that in spite of winning every game in living memory, Chelsea are currently only 7 points ahead of City, who were in 'crisis' & have rarely hit top form so far & we are not even in 2nd place, Liverpool are closer still.
A month from now, Chelsea could be 3rd or 4th. All the top 4 teams still have it all to play for, in spite of Chelsea's seeming invincibility at this stage.
They have played without fear of failure so far. That will change.
