Nothing theoretically about it. Matić did strike Barnes.
And as bad as the tackle was, Matić couldn't have been that badly injured if he was able to jump up in an instant and race after Barnes.
When I was a kid, it was always emphasised that retaliation was worse than the original offence. Maybe if Matić had stayed down, the ref would have taken action against Barnes.
