Chelsea Thread 2014/15

A good result from Chelsea and something they would have taken, but probably not something they would have taken with 10 minutes left and playing 10 men.

I felt the game was actually very worrying for a Chelsea point of view. Criticise David Luiz all you like, but he has a very high ceiling. He is not the sort of guy t win you a league title, but he can definitely put in world class performances whether at the back or in midfield. Terry and Cahill are as good as they come when they are sitting in front of a defensive formation defending crosses, but when they lose that protection they are exposed. Not so much Cahill, who is very good but definitely Terry.

Diego Costa had a decent game considering he was up against Kompany and Mangala on top form, both of whom were brilliant. However, the attacking players were poor. Willian gave nothing except for his work rate repeatedly giving the ball away and Ramires was not much better on the right. Hazard was okay, but not at the level you would expect. Schurrle did come on and give them more penetration and got the goal. I know he was at fault for the goal, but so was Matic for not tracking Lampard. The biggest disappointment if Fabregas. He is fantastic at supplying the final ball, but he does not quite dictate games the way that Schweinsteiger, Toure, Scholes Xavi etc can. He did not do enough for me and it meant Chelsea were completely dominated in midfield. This is particularly disappointing considering what Lahm, Alonso and Alaba did against the same midfield.

Still despite City being by far the better team in this match, I think ultimately it makes me believe Chelsea will win the league, but not the CL. There new quality attacking and especially Fabregas will be god enough to beat the also rans in the league, but not strong enough for the elite teams.
I think Mourinho knew that if he opened up against City we'd win. I'm sure he'll play a different game against other teams but I wouldn't back against City. I think City are stronger than last season

I think we can do a job at Chelsea .
When we play them away in January .
Chelsea weren't that good today .
I don't remember Joe Hart doing much today .

??? Bet its not as high as mine, as I dos under a railway bridge...

Loll reading all the comments from chelsea fans on twitter, they got really riled up to be compared to stoke. Didn't know pellegrini can throw such a good troll bait.

Not sure what they're complaining about. They did play like stoke - I was actually a bit disappointed because seeing chelsea's match result lately, I though we would see a more exciting play from them. Instead it was the Mourinho's double bus(tm).

And they couldn't even beat us even though they play much dirtier than stoke!

Why was Costa permitted to change from Brazil to Spain????

I find this astonishing.

It must be a worry for Chelsea that Hazard and Fabregas appear to be flat track bullies. I think come the business end of the season, Chelsea will buckle. They sit ply don't have mentality of years previous.

He's only 25????

He looks at least 10 years older than that.

A decent point after we went a goal behind, but actually Chelsea were actually a disappointment in being so negative and with that in mind today it seems a bit like 2 points dropped.

Mangala, Milner and Kompany the best 3 players yesterday. Toure and to a lesser extent Dzeko (no goals yet this season) still out of sorts and Silva quiet yesterday.

After 5 games we are 2 points worse off then we were against the same opponents we have played thus far when compared with last season. 1 Point more at home to Chelsea but 3 less against Stoke at home. All other results against the 3 other teams as last season. Thus should we feel OK so far or a little disappointed ?

V Sheff Wed I suspect Pellegrini will make quite a lot of changes (6-8), which I think is always dangerous. I bet Aguero will not start the game.

Will Zabaleta be suspended for the League Cup after yesterdays sending off or will he be able to play in that and be suspended for the Hull game instead ?

v Sheff Wed I think 3-4 changes would be enough i.e. Caballero for Hart (to give him a game), Demichellis for either Kompany or Mangala, Nasri for Toure (with Milner moved into centre midfield) and Navas for Dzeko, and if all is going well bring on Lampard for Fernandinho at some point and Clichy for Kolarov and Sinclair or Dzeko for Navas or Aguero.

Then v Hull next weekend same 11 as started v Chelsea (unless Zabaleta is suspended and if so use Sagna or Clichy)

It would be nice to retain a trophy which is something the club has never done in its history, and thus I hope we take the League Cup seriously again.

A domestic Cup double would be great !
