Chelsea Thread 2014/15

Chelsea done what they had to do yesterday. Mourinho always plays the same was against the bigger teams, and it pays dividends. I'm sure he was disappointed they didn't win yesterday after going 1-0 up against 10 men, but he'll take a draw at our gaff.

Thought they were shit and the fact they hadn't played anyone of note yet looked very apparent.

The mighty costa was made to look like Alan Carr by our CBs and faregas was nowhere to be seen.

We are much the better side and if they're our main competitor they might as well give us the title now.

Watching Di Maria scare the lives out of defenses with his speed and direct running with the ball it annoys me that we don't have anyone of that profile.

Outside of Aguero (and Navas when he plays) we really lack pace in attacking areas, esp on the ball. Now that we have Mangala, this is the only missing link we have. If we had a Di Maria we'd run away with the title despite Chelsea's attacking signings and Mourinho's pragmatism.

A good result from Chelsea and something they would have taken, but probably not something they would have taken with 10 minutes left and playing 10 men.

I felt the game was actually very worrying for a Chelsea point of view. Criticise David Luiz all you like, but he has a very high ceiling. He is not the sort of guy t win you a league title, but he can definitely put in world class performances whether at the back or in midfield. Terry and Cahill are as good as they come when they are sitting in front of a defensive formation defending crosses, but when they lose that protection they are exposed. Not so much Cahill, who is very good but definitely Terry.

Diego Costa had a decent game considering he was up against Kompany and Mangala on top form, both of whom were brilliant. However, the attacking players were poor. Willian gave nothing except for his work rate repeatedly giving the ball away and Ramires was not much better on the right. Hazard was okay, but not at the level you would expect. Schurrle did come on and give them more penetration and got the goal. I know he was at fault for the goal, but so was Matic for not tracking Lampard. The biggest disappointment if Fabregas. He is fantastic at supplying the final ball, but he does not quite dictate games the way that Schweinsteiger, Toure, Scholes Xavi etc can. He did not do enough for me and it meant Chelsea were completely dominated in midfield. This is particularly disappointing considering what Lahm, Alonso and Alaba did against the same midfield.

Still despite City being by far the better team in this match, I think ultimately it makes me believe Chelsea will win the league, but not the CL. There new quality attacking and especially Fabregas will be god enough to beat the also rans in the league, but not strong enough for the elite teams.

David Luiz's ceiling must be as high as them guys on Phoenix Nights then ("how far away are they?") and his performances in the Premier League showed him to be what he is...bang average. I have never seen him perform anywhere near Kompany or Terry.

And Costa?!? He didn't have a decent game yesterday, he was tripe. Did absolutely nowt. Only came out of hiding when we went down to 10 like the big hard bully at school.

Also. Mourinho coming for a draw after just 5 games is appalling.

I expected a lot more from Chelsea, but Costa was starved of the ball so what could he do. Worth remembering that he at least hit the post when our forwards failed to make much of an impression despite having a lot of the ball

Personally I thought that although he was bullied by Kompany and Mangala for most of the game, he always seemed a handful. Wouldn't say he had a bag game as he wasn't anonymous, they just didn't create any chances for him.

Just my opinion but he was more of a threat in a pragmatic team than our two strikers were in a team that had the majority of the ball.

Still think were lacking a top class striker that is constantly on the prowl

I wasn't very impressed by Chelsea at all yesterday.

We completely dominated Chelsea first half which lead to them being camped into their own half. When a team with Terry, Cahill and Matic are camped in their own box, it's hard to get the breakthrough as they are so solid.

Chelsea didn't have one shot on target in the first half - says it all.

The sending off completely changed the game for me and I'm sure we would have won if it wasn't for that.

Says a lot about Mourinho even after signing the players he thinks completes his team that he still doesn't think Chelsea are good enough to come to us and attack. Their tactic was to get 10 men behind the ball and try to nick a goal on the counter attack.

Diego Costa didn't have a decent game, he was totally bullied by Kompany and Mangala as expected.

Maybe you should have watched the CL final in 2012 or perhaps even the match against City at the Etihand where Chelsea won. Other games include the Confederations Cup last year, a few matches against United and the Bilboa match to name a few. Luiz's problem is that too often he made mistakes and could not eliminate it from his game.

As for Costa don't you remember him hitting the post, drawing the tackle to get Zabaleta sent off, playing a part in the Chelsea goal and all the while facing a very physical, aggressive defence, which is only allowed in England. Two questions.
1. Who had it harder in the game Dzeko and Aguero or Costa.
2 Who impacted the game more Dzeko/Aguero or Costa?

As for the criticisms about Fabregas in the big games they may be valid, after all he is an Arsenal player, but how cam you make such a comment about Hazard? Even yesterday where he was not at his best he provided a brilliant cross for the assist and another pass, which Ramires messed up. That apart he has shone in big games against you just last year at the Etihad and against PSG. He had a poor world cup, but some of these criticisms are actually ignoring matches that took place against City.

Some good balanced comments mate, however if the refs had played their part at Everton or at City he'd of walked with a three match ban for his elbow at Everton and his attempted strangulation at City. How nothing seems to be happening to him is unbelievable. Anyway a 3 match ban and his productivity would have been fecked.

Another way to put it is if Kun was in the Chelsea side would he had had more of the ball being the striker, I think he possible would have, however our set up is slightly different in that we play in a more holistic way where strikers quite often find themselves being slightly wider and not as direct as at Chelsea.
