Chelsea Thread (2015-16)

Pedro is quality, he'll be one of their best players this season. I still can't believe they got him for £21 million!

saw the WBA game ,WBA were well on top and deserved the penalty ,Pedros goal was against the run of play and with out the deflection would of looked like a back pass,Chelsea scored in 3 out of maybe 4 or 5 attacks 1st half ,Maureen said they were fantastic, they were in no way fantastic and Matic slamming into Costa summed up a lot of their game
2nd half they were hanging on and Pullis made poor subs
Pedros goal gave him confidence lets see how he gets on when nothings going his way

Check out the back page of the Sun. Has a big photo of Mourinho screaming into an effects microphone.

I watched the WBA game. CFC were very vulnerable and a bit fortunate. They were the better team, but looked like they could concede goals which is very unusual for a Chelsea team. Hazard was again brilliant. He is the best player by far in the Premiership at the moment. When Chelsea were down to 10 men they jus gave him the ball and WBA could not get it off him. It took 3 or 4 WBA players to crowd him out. Very useful for a team under pressure

A continual aspect of the Chelsea game was the diving for free-kicks on the blind side of the ref. This is a massive feature of their game. Surely match officials will wise up to this. I think this is something Jose has brought to their game.

Pedro got all kinds of praise but his goal was very fortunate. Surprisingly they played Hazard and Willian and Pedro in the same team. I think Willian must have moved inside.

It was a solid away performance from Chelsea without being spectacular. They looked to counter attack and WBA were very easy to catch on the break. I think WBA were surprised at how easy it was to create chances and have efforts on goal. They should have taken the lead from the pen but were caught when chasing the game. Still, they got back into it and for me the main issue is Matic. He's not looking anywhere near the solid player he was last time out. He's playing further up the pitch rather than sitting back and he's not really hunting the opposition down to win the ball back, just casually jogging around the pitch. He was poor against us last weekend and he didn't do his job well this time around either. Instead, they could get the ball forward quickly and be at the centre backs who didn't cope particularly well. This soft centre is odd to see in a Mourinho side.

Willian centrally I imagine will only be seen until Oscar is back and then he'll be out of the team. Hazard was good, kept the ball well but he didn't show much desire to carry the ball and attack. That's why Pedro was the difference, he thought "if you're going to sit back then I'll run straight at you and make you try and tackle me". That worked a treat and he managed to score, albeit deflected into the bottom corner.

They might gain confidence from this but Palace will be confident they can take something. They will sit a bit deeper and play Chelsea at their own game, counter attacking and they've players that can hurt Chelsea. Interestingly WBA have kept 6 clean sheets in their last 12 games, in the other 6 they've conceded 3 or more goals.

Chelsea's defence is a problem.

Jamie Redknapp surprisingly made a really good point about Courtois' positioning when balls are played in behind Chelsea's defence. When Chelsea play with a higher line, Courtois has to play as more of a sweeper. The Terry sending off yesterday would never have happened if Neuer was in goals, that's the benchmark for Courtois.

Between Courtois' decision making and Terry/Ivanovic's lack of pace, Chelsea look really suspect when their defence is high up the pitch.

You need to fine tune a defensive line. The players / manager / keeper will all have a preference about how to hold the line and when/where to push things / not push things. It’s a case of getting the right balance and everyone to be on the same page so everything works. Chelsea were fine last season but something has not clicked this year, these players who all of a sudden are too slow have always been slow. It might just be a subtle tweak and it will all comes back.

It will be interesting to see how long the media manage to pretend what are clearly the signs of mental illness are some sort of tactical genius mind games by the special one. Time to saddle up the little horse and do one me thinks. Come in Jose, your three years is up!
Durham on talkshite alluding that there is something not right in Maureens head saying his behaviour is baffling, not saying mental illness but somat's not right

He's a more intelligent version of Navas with a left foot. Who can finish.

That sounds harsh in Navas but I don't mean it to.

Tapped-up by the rags perhaps - inner turmoil as to how he can justify bailing?
