My post is a response to the many “we dropped a bollock” posts regarding Palmer leaving, which are just too simplistic and emotional to be reasonable (as they ignore many factors that actually have an impact on him doing well at City versus at Chelsea). I have said many times he is having a great season individually. But that doesn’t mean he should have stayed with us.
We did as its far more important to make it work with local academy lads...it sets the tone for the 100's that train with us. Cole should have been the exception, and already a miss...he would have been ideal Haaland pinning Arsenal back on their own 18 yard line..Cole playing 15 - 30 yards out like a pivot in basketball...we severly lacked that as KDB looked fked. Just two examples of the big miss not working harder to keep him

Arsenal were already pinned back to their 18 yard line for most of the match. And for all of his immense attacking prowess, he tends to create weaknesses on his side for the opposition to exploit, which is no doubt one of the reasons Pep couldn’t give him assurances of a regular starting birth (beyond his youth). It is something that has contributed to the results Chelsea have seen this season (in combination with their other promising but still raw young players) and an aspect of his game he is still working to improve.

Palmer with us was a bit like Kev at Chelsea (or even Salah). He wasn’t the right fit at the time and it took him leaving to play in a lesser side to fully develop and prove himself. There is no telling whether Kev would have become the legendary player he is now without that move at that time. Maybe, maybe not.

I am sure Palmer will be doing everything he can to exactly replicate Kev’s career trajectory.

I was saying WITH Arsenal pinned due to Haaland sitting there and our closing = perfect opportunity for a ball player who's composed who can operate 25 yards out - usually KDB but he was fked, should have been Phil sliding in middle - if not Phil then a confident Cole would have been perfect. We do lack a bit of creativiy this season - CP even in another 'learning year' would have helped - and maybe more influential in 2 - 3 yrs - just a loss because of that- not necessarily what he offers now

It was just a snapshot of players that came into my head when thinking Cole Palmer. The reliance on composure and balance ...
As oppoppseed to speed.certain players have that languid highly technical posture when playing the game....you don't see it often now.
If Wilson had been born and coached in France, not England, maybe we would see more of the connection....
All the players I mentioned were graceful languid composed ,not rushed football players....like Palmer. It's something I've picked up on ,over the years...I'm not saying Wilson was as good as Platini..or any of the others, it's just a style of play.

Good posts. Palmer reminded me of Mahrez. Mahrez had a pretty good career with the club, despite some of the same faults people mention about Palmer, and I thought Palmer could have been a natural replacement. Of course, it may not have worked and/or he may have been too impatient. A shame, though, in my book that we never got to find out

Bit of a random thought, but why do Chelsea have so many squad players who are reminiscent of those auto-generated players you get on FIFA/Football Manager?

I mean… who the fuck is Alfie Gilchrist?

If I wasn’t on this forum, I’d have said the same thing the first time I saw Oscar Bobb play haha. Gilchrist is just a kid from the academy. He’s nothing special really.

Why would Palmer seek to follow a Kevs career ?

Kev v was a top to p player at Wolfsburg ,whilst ,at the same time being Belgium's best player, by far , when Belgium were rated the best team in world football, for a good two years...

Palmer is carving out his own career , nothing at all to do with KDB
The only similarity is they have both played for Chelsea ?

You mention that Palmer has led to weaknesses for the Chelsea side ?

I think his hatrick tonight and his general all round play all season..has led to , quite clearly , to those with eyes to see... A clear strength for his side this season...imo ..it's other Chelski players who 've let the side down imo

And that of every Chelsea fan I've spoken to....

Still.. some City fans will look for a negative..... beggars belief .

Do you not recognise greatness when you see it ??

It's like saying Walker Is a great defender ,but he doesnt 't score enough goals, ...( lol) ..or Haaland is a fantastic goal score,r but doesn't touch the ball enough .. ??

Give it a rest .

Very fair haha, nothing personal against Alfie, sure he's a great lad.

I think it's just because I'm not paying as close attention to Chelsea over the last 12 months as I would usually, and every time I watch you you seem to bring on some kid who's name looks like it's been deliberately slightly misspelled. Who was that kid you brought on v Liverpool a few months ago? Cesare Casadei according to Wiki. And... Deivid Washington lol. Also probably not helped by injuries.

He was quite poor tonight overall, as he often is, and it contributed to Chelsea having to come from behind through two very fortunate goals. And that has been the case often this season.

If you can’t see that, or the potential parallels to the path Kev took in his career, or that Chelsea plays a completely different system and face completely different tactics from opposition which suit Palmer’s attacking attributes (thought not his deficiencies), then you are right, it is time to rest the debate.

He’s not blameless though. I was at Spurs but I’ve just watched Chelsea back. For as good as Palmer is on the ball and attacking, he needs to sort out game off the ball and defensively. He was pretty bad in that respect yesterday. Lazy at times. Recognise this will be unpopular
It was the same tonight, it’s just that blues that are upset he left tend to ignore it.
