Chelsea v City Post Match Thread

Now I've had the chance to reflect objectively, my take...

Good points:
5 man midfield dod the trick. Felt we controlled large parts of the game, certainly the middle. always felt we had options. Good decision.
Demichelis - good debut into the prem, pleased to have him as back up.
Aguero, Silva, - excellent as usual (we should be careful to not take this for granted.)
Nasri - put in a shift and his off the ball running in tight spots really is top drawer in creating openings for himself and others.
Garcia - for the most part, did well. See next section too though.
Fernandinho - like him a lot - great industry and seeing the 'box to boxness' that is possible when he has someone back covering the back 4 (not Yaya).

Bad points:

Hart decision - all on him, have to agree with Souness. Nasty had it under control but still had some pressure on him if there was a mistake. As the man who's next in line of defence with extra time to read the situation, you'v got to let your man do his job and be ready to sweep up the danger if it goes wrong. You have the extra mental awareness afforded by the lack of tunnel vision to anticipate where things are likely to go next and be ready. Plunging in almost always ends in disaster unless you know things are about to f up and you also know how. At that point of the field in that position, safety first.
Clichy - I like him, but this year something not right, looks like lack of practice to me, but this is apparently hammering his confidence too.
Garcia - Last 15 minutes began to commit several of the errors for which he has a reputation - namely, pondering on the ball for waaaayyyy too long even when there are easy options. Perhaps he's thinking about making a killer pass too hard so doesn't - but ends up doing nothing and losing the ball. Should be rammed into him to keep it simple - aka Barry. Simple message, break it up, reconnect the play quickly, and let the skill guys do their thing - that's what you're there for (Roy, take note!)
Fernandinho - have noticed that he tries a few too many hollywood balls form deep that are intercepted. Please just cut these out - at least until you're over the halfway semi.

Not the end of the world, but was gutted. Still, we're still in it.

I agree all good points.

Clichy & Hart need dropping & we need Vincent back ASAP. That should sort things out.

I think we need a new keeper & left back in Jan.

Just had to look up what i wrote in the Weekend matches thread about U*d.....

Hey!! They bloody won, doesn't matter how shit they were they got maximum points so lets put the laughing off till we are too far in front to care.

Carry on.

The fact city are only two points ahead of united is a lot to do with their own fault. Yesterday was bad but it was really the stupid defeats at cardiff and villa that have set their title hopes back.

Casillas isn't getting games at Madrid.... I'd take a former Champions League, World Cup winning captain any day and he'll fit in with the Spanish contingent here. I know Joe is a great keeper but he's 25 and keepers are meant to peak much later, goalkeepers always make mistakes but I think your goalkeeper is only as good as the defence in front of you. In the Arsenal invincibles year would you say David Seaman was the best goalkeeper in the world or the fact he had the best defence and a peaking Vieira in front of him. I think Joe needs serious competition to keep him on his toes when the going gets tough and bringing in someone like Casillas to do it would bring so much to the table for us too.

I am not sure casillas will got to city unless he is sure he get first team football all the time. I think hart though does need more competition.

I haven't read the whole thread, just maybe first 20 pages, but i can't agree with those who say that City played well and didn't deserve to lose.
Maybe that's the truth for the second half, but the first half could have easily ended 2:0 for Chelsea or worse. Cahil had a free volley from around 15 yards with only Hart in front of him, Torres was one on one with Hart with just ten yards out, Torres hit the post...
On the other side, only one shot at Chelsea's goal in the first half, - Aguero from a very difficult angle.
Second half was better for City, Chelsea didn't create anything, well, except that blunder at the end, but apart from Aguero's goal i remember only Silva testing Cech with one shot.
A lot of people on here have selective memories when it comes to those Chelsea chances in the first half.

But to return to the debate about Hart; how do we give him "competition" to keep him on his toes?
Joe is one of the best keepers in the country and is playing for a team that is one of the favourites to win the Prem. Even on his off-days he's well above average for the division, though I found that hard to type after his monumental fuck up yesterday. How do we find a keeper good enough to provide competition when that same keeper could be playing every week for many teams in the top division? Pants and any other backup keeper might get the domestic cups (and possibly the Europa if we mess up) but that's not enough for an ambitious keeper.

Jesus we have lost a game that we should have at least had a draw.
Why now are City all of a sudden a FCKING lost cause.
WE LOST BECAUSE OF A BAD MISTAKE AND IT IS NOT THE END OF OUR SEASON AS SOME APPEAR TO BELIEVE.

Haha this is quality from the Goon !

Not posted here for a while and not hear to gloat, thought we were best first half and you second a draw would have probably been the fair result but we got the break.

Just find the goons message amusing, in our first 9 games Chelsea have been away to united, everton and spurs and had City at home. City have had United, everton and Chelsea.........Arsenal have played 8 of the bottom 10 !!! A home game against Spurs the only team they've faced in the top half, can't take them seriously until they've faced some serious opposition away as well as at home.
