I remember when Xmas and the new year sprit lingered into Jan for a few days and it was really pleasant. But now because the bombardment starts so early, come Jan 2nd that's it, packed up and over. Understandable when you've had 2 months endless exposure to it before hand.

I think it's just tradition mate, they don't really serve a purpose as such these days they are just a part of Christmas for some people.

It’s memories, I was chatting to my dad about it the other day funnily enough and one of our tradition as kids with him and my mum, he was genuinely made up I remembered that stuff from 50 years ago, I think it made him feel he’d done his job that we remembered that stuff. I try to do the same with my daughter.

Christmas is whatever you want it to be and whatever you make it. If you let TV advertisers and what retailers do spoil it for you then that's your problem.

Spot on. I love the christmas build up from november 1st onwards, but I will build it up my own traditional way, not the way comercials and retailers tell me to.

Just been to order my Turkey and bits from our butchers, for me that’s the kick off and over the next few weeks will order our cheese, buy presents.Then it really kicks off ehen we go to the local forest for our tree around the 15th December.As you say,none of it has anything to do with commercials.
