Christmas markets

Used to walk past them every day after work going past the Corn Exchange and would often grab a curry wurst or something like that. That was back in about 2017 and it would cost me a fiver for a decent bite to eat.

Dread to think what it costs now.
Are there markets at exchange square this year? Went past it on the tram last week and they were building a music stage. All the other locations in the city centre they are bulilding the market huts

Don’t know to be honest mate, used to live next to Blackfriars Bridge but moved away a few years back.

It’s still got it marked as part of the Markets on their site.

When lived in Manc, we would have a walk around them just to see them, but then spent our hard earned in the pubs, bars and restaurants that are there all year round, paying high rents, taxes and bills to help keep them afloat.

Had a wander around the Manchester Xmas markets last year, being careful to do it on a weekday morning when the crowds were smaller, and was really disappointed.
The majority of the stalls weren't even Xmas related, but were just overpriced food stalls selling Turkish and Italian takeaways at over inflated prices.
Conversely, I've really enjoyed the Xmas markets in Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands and Croatia when I've been on City away game trips, mainly being due to being able to sample some beer, food and Gluhwein at reasonable prices.
I guess I'm not the target audience but will be giving the UK ones a wide berth this year.

Having lived in Germany for a quite a few years when they imported them over here in the early 00s they were ok as prices were inline with Germany, now it’s an absolute rip off, the stalls sell shite, we stay we clear I’d rather spend my money in a local pub. It’s better value to fly to Europe get to a proper market and probably have snow as well.

Same as, did the Dortmund and Munich markets when we were playing them in December. Also did Paris with Mrs H, plenty of stalls on the Champs Elysee down to the Place de Concorde with a big wheel that gives a spectacular view of the City. I know Paris isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I absolutely loved the place and I found a lot of the people were very friendly.

I love them personally. Have done a few around Europe. Don't tend to buy much, but pre-kids would go and have a few drinks and soak up the atmosphere and was an excuse for a weekend away. Now, with the kids, they can go on a few rides we can have a couple of drinks and it's a nice little getaway.

I've done Warsaw, Copenhagen, Basel, Vienna, Luxembourg (also went across to Trier in Germany).

Like stopping by the ones in Manchester on the way to a game. They're overpriced and a pain in the arse undoubtedly, but I like having a mulled wine or beer in the cold under the lights!

Exactly. Cologne in December for 2 nights, flights and hotel for £160. Would rather do that than spend a night in town getting dry bummed for a shit hotdog and having to be shoulder to shoulder with the great unwashed.
