Manchester City interested in Cirigliano, claims agent
The 20-year-old has won over fans for his impressive performances this term, and after reported interest from PSG the English club have also emerged as potential suitors

River Plate starlet Ezequiel Cirigliano is reportedly in the sights of Premier League leaders Manchester City, as his representative asserts that the English club are following his client's progress closely.

The 20-year-old defensive midfielder has been a regular for the Millo since relegation in June 2011 condemned them to play the following season in the Nacional B for the first time, and along with Lucas Ocampos has established himself as one of the top young stars in the institution.

His progress has not gone unnoticed, with Paris Saint-Germain having previously been linked with a move for the former Argentina youth international.

According to agent Rodrigo Vilarino, the French club could face strong competition from Manchester City for a transfer, as Roberto Mancini's side are long-term admirers of the tenacious midfielder.

"City have been following Ezequiel since the start of 2010, when they sent him an invitation to England for a 20-day trial," the representative explained to Ole on Thursday.

Mancini's assistant Attilio Lombardi has reportedly been entrusted with keeping close tabs on Cirigliano. The Italian apparently observed the player's last two outings, a win over title rivals Instituto and a draw in Mar del Plata against Aldosivi, and was impressed with what he saw.

If City do make an approach, Cirigliano could become the fourth Argentine to currently wear the Sky Blue, as compatriots Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta already star at the Etihad Stadium.

With River reluctant to sell their young talents with a view to competing in the Primera Division next year, however, a bid of up to €15 million could be necessary to tempt a sale.

It'd be good to buy some of these players from Argentina and Brazil before they are turned into £20million players in Serie A and La Liga. Cirigliano has been called the new Mascherano but I haven't seen him play personally.

So many though LC, i mean im still trying to pronounce one lads name we have been linked to, that was 2 weeks ago and i'm still stuck.

How many does the academy accomodate on site ? i mean we can't grab every good prospect can we but we can nurse a fair few i suspect.

Yeah but this kid would go into the first team squad or quickly loaned out, he's already 20 and would be bought as a first team/squad player signing, unlike many of our recent signings who have been 14/15/16/17 and gone into the youth setup.

Judging from that first compilation video, he needs to seriously work keeping possession in deep midfield positions.

Sometimes giving the defender your back is more effective than trying unnecessary flicks and skills.

Not bad.
The other team is one of the worst i've seen, look how much time on the ball and they got.
and the game is soooo slow i fall asleep watching those 6 min.

In The Guardian, double bid imminent?

City's long-term planning has also taken Attilio Lombardo, one of Mancini's coaches, to Argentina, where the Italian watched Lucas Ocampos and Ezequiel Cirigliano, two River Plate youngsters.

Lombardo saw the pair in training and attended River Plate's Primera B game with Instituto on 21 April. Ocampos, 17, is a striker and the 20-year-old Cirigliano a midfielder.

An Argentinian football podcast I listen to called Hand of Pod, did a small section (from about 50:30) about him and a potential move to City the other week.

Any update on this

This is the other player we have been linked with

Not seen much of Cirigliano but Ocampos is a talent having watched him at u'17s world cup. I know u17's but he looked great. Remember also that River Plate are in the second tier of Argentinian football, and the top division itself isn't exactly of the highest quality.

Cirigliano might have an EU passport or be eligible for one, a lot of Argentines seem to and his name is Italian so it's possible.

Edit: Don't know how reliable it is but this link says he has an EU passport at the bottom... http://forum.soccermanager.com/showpost ... stcount=12

Manchester City 'hold talks about Lucas Ocampos transfer'

Manchester City have reportedly begun moves to negotiate the transfer of Lucas Ocampos, one of the rising stars of South American football.

Citizens coach Attilio Lombardo travelled to Argentina to watch the 17-year-old in action for River Plate last month and subsequently recommended him to Roberto Mancini.

The Premier League champions know they face strong competition for the versatile forward from a host of major European clubs and have apparently now opened talks about a possible deal.

A City representative held a lengthy meeting with River Plate president Daniel Passarella to discuss the potential transfer, reports Gazzetta dello Sport.

The discussions were seemingly inconclusive and Passarella is still willing to consider bids from other clubs, particularly if any proposed deal would allow the Buenos Aires-based side to hold on to Ocampos until December.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the Argentina Under-17s international and River Plate hope to see a bidding war develop.

They value the youngster at around £14million, but will find it difficult to persuade any club to pay that figure for a relatively unproven player.

£14million for a 17 years old is fantasy from from River Plate chairman.

£14 million is a lot yes but the rags took a risk in signing a recently turned 18-year-old in Ronaldo in 2003. Look at how that turned out. Whenever I've watched this kid, he has shown exceptional potential and already plently of quality.

Not sure about the player in the OP, but Lucas Ocampos is a very good prospect (going of football manager)

United have made a £4.5million bid for him, and they accuse us of stealing targets they scouted first?

Makes it even better. Prefer Argies to Brazillians just prays if we do sign them we don't have internation crisis on our hands over the Falklands.
