2 questions:

Why do people do this shit?
Why do people watch this shit?

Honestly, I reckon a lot of the people who watch this sort of stuff are not English. When I see Twitter 'banter' after games, it's often overseas fans, perhaps because there's not the same community around the club and opportunities for banter in real life. Especially the people who respond to the official Premier League feeds and such. That's why Twitter is full of people saying "emptihad" who've never been to the country that their favourite club is in, nevermind watched a game.

Some of them earn a lot of money, more than they would if they did a 'normal' job.

Various reasons I guess. Can't get a stream of the game, curiosity, boredom, waiting to be outraged and so on.

Fair enough on q1, if they can make money then I can get that. As for watching, I'm sorry you'd have to be out of your mind in my opinion, it's just annoying

It's a bit weird seeing users who are routinely incredibly rude, disrespectful and abusive to City players or rival teams suddenly get worked up about not paying Peterborough respect.

The very first comment in the Brentford pre-match thread is calling them shit. No one has complained about the user being disrespectful.

People making some weird assumptions in this thread and on twitter - as far as I know, the lad has supported City since long before the takeover, is from Manchester and lives there and goes to games, and has a "real" job outside of doing City Xtra. It's a bad look in that one clip of course, but the overreaction is mad, as if Peterborough fans wouldn't be doing the exact same thing if they drew an opponent from leagues below them lol

I'm sure he's a lovely bloke and a proper fan, but fucking hell, you can't get away with that, especially as a City fan. They're a Championship team ffs, which is a league above where we were not too long ago.

Aye I'm not saying it's not cringe and a bad moment for him, but the amount of people just projecting shite onto him about being "plastic", "used to support United", "not a real fan", "doing it for money", etc is weird. I'm usually at the game so have no need but I do sometimes watch brief clips of Goldbridge when the rags get beat as he's quite funny unintentionally such as when he described Phil the Face's pink boots as "plates of spam" (might have been tins of salmon).
