City’s New Kits - 2021/22

I have never bought anything because I saw the brand advertised on a football shirt
And thinking of the teams at the top of the prem I can't even remember what company is on the front of spurs, Leicester, Everton and West Ham's shirts
I thought I'd test myself on this. I knew Leicester straight off. I also know the Spurs one but don't have a clue what their sponsor's product actually is, but I;m guessing it might be something to do with insurance?

I'm fairly sure the other two are betting sites of some type.

I'm not sure these shirts sponsorships are worth it for the sponsor TBH. I'd never ever buy a Sharp product or Chrevrolet, for example, simply because of their association with the Rags.

West Ham's is betway, they're an online bookies alright. Everton are Cazoo, I think they're one of those car sales websites, although they don't seem to be a big presence anywhere that Everton would receive a lot of attention so it's a confusing one. Spurs is a yank life insurance crowd (AIA). My old employer would have gone through them for a lot of employee policies so I've had some dealings with them in the past. I imagine they got involved with spurs for the possible NFL links on the new stadium as Spurs don't get great ratings in the US and their European profile (as AIA, as opposed to affiliate companies and indirect business) is non-existent afaik.

Not a fan of sponsors either to be honest, although at least most of ours have been fairly subtle (first advice was horrific though) rather than monstrosities like the rags Chevrolet or Jeep for Juve. It's the nature of the modern game though, even when the old calibre of sponsors got priced out the multinationals replaced them.

I bought a Sharp microwave once. We needed one, it was on offer and I'd totally forgotten they had been a rags sponsor until I got it home

One year for Christmas my sister bought me this England cricket shirt and at the time the rags were also sponsored by Vodafone. My immediate thoughts was, some dickhead is going to think I'm a rag
Roll the calendar forward to the summer and I'm at Manchester airport wearing this shirt, walking though T2 and as I approach one of the bars I spot a rag by his shitty badge on a polo shirt and despite my shirt being

A- A cricket shirt
B - England emblem on the front
C- Admiral branded

I knew what was going to happen and sure enough, as soon as he spotted "Vodafone" he nodded and said "alright mate"

Brand awareness, familiarity and exposure, it is much bigger than an individual buying a single thing.

And there will be people that make decisions what money to spend based on brand familiarity, strength of name, and even affiliation.

Better not tell these big companies then, might save them billions in advertising.

I remember listening to somebody from a big business years ago, can't remember who or what now. He said though about 50% of money spent on advertising / brand awareness was wasted. The only problem was nobody knew which 50%.
I havent gone out and bought something because it was advertised or a sponsor. I have though bought a brand I've heard of against one I haven't. And when searching flights if Emirates and Etihad have come up comparable prices, chosen Etihad, probably purely down to association, then again that must work in reverse as well for brands associated with a team somebody dislikes.

i used to like the brother logo on ours in the early ninety's , most sponsor logos tend to look pretty rubbish though imo

Not sure why companies clamber to sponsor football shirts. I re throwing out a load of Nivea for Men stuff when the Liverpool ads first aired. I used to buy Lavazza Coffee until recently when the Arsenal ads started. Done that a few times to be fair, can’t remember all the examples. I guess Bulldog and the suppliers of Morrison’s own label French Roast Coffee aren’t complaining.
