City’s New Kits - 2021/22

What’s the correct shade of blue? It’s different almost every season.

The shade of blue we wore with Colin Bell in 67/68 (arguably the most classic City shirt) is different than almost every shirt we’ve worn over the last 40 years for example. You’d think you’d know this considering your attitude towards the kits is that of an old man.

Puma can’t make the same generic City kit every season just to please someone who will never buy them. They need to sell hundreds of thousands of these kits every year and that means mixing things up.

We’d all love the 09/10 or 67/68 kit each season but the reality is that this just doesn’t make sense in the modern world where sales need to be made.

I was once told by someone at Umbro that the 10/11 shirt was the worst selling home shirt of their last contact with us by far. The reason was because it was too similar to the 09/10 shirt and this is what led to the 11/12 and 12/13 shirts having more unique designs.

Oh ok

You must have missed my last sentence then.

I didn’t. It’s nothing to do with liking or not liking. It’s to do with mixing things up enough so that a manufacturer can get people to buy their shirts each year in order to claw back the £65m they pay us each year. They can’t make that money back by giving us the same generic home kit each season as proven by the disappointing sales of the otherwise excellent 10/11 home shirt.

My discussion with the other poster was about liking it or not.

What you want to discuss is the business model and thinking behind it

We all know what that is.

Indeed,if you are the football shirt wearing type, you can save yourself plenty of money, maintain a consistency/relevance,while crucially looking so much better.....by acquiring the 72 Retro variety.

Takes away the apparent anxiety/anger and does the job superbly - winner, winner!
I’ve got a 1941 replica kit! By heck it’s heavy compared with the ones today but it’s got a proper COLLAR!
it was a birthday present 10 years ago.
