City’s New Kits

Thanks. Do City set them a brief at all, or do Puma just go "hell, we fancy blue shorts this season" and City just let them have free rein?
I think puma come up with the designs

he said the blue 3rd kit (man city- no badge) was a real hard sell to the club who werent sure at all but puma were very keen. As i say, puma have to make their money back so ultimately its down to them.

that shirt was a real slow burner and looked to be a failure but results like thumping sporting 5-0 in it bring a big sales spike

we sell 500,000 shirts per year. United about 2m.
fake kits, although a problem, are actually quite a compliment as they say in the industry that you havent really made it until they are selling your clubs fake kits in the far east. And the more fakes they sell the more genuine ones will be sold

any leaks of kits are just that. Leaks. Generally never my puma/city as a marketing ploy, usually could be something as daft as a plumber visiting HQ and spotting the kit on a mannequin and taking a sneaky pic

Interesting thing, the club and puma are all over this forum when a new kit is released to gauge reaction and they can very much tell how a kit will sell from that initial reaction.

I did mention in another thread that he said the ground extension is 100% going ahead. But for covid it would be well on its way but covid scuppered it and they are now waiting on completion of the arena before works start.

Not the Far East, but I travel through Schiphol in Amsterdam a few times a year. I remember the first time I went through and there were City shirts for sale, but no rags and thinking how the tables had turned.

Well they screwed up with that 3rd kit. I appreciate Puma's intentions with most of our kits, I just wish City would take a firmer line on certain things.

Certainly a lot more fond of Puma than Nike, despite the misses.

Really interesting all that. Thanks for taking the time to post it all.

But surely that’s a missed chance as we should have everything improved alongside the new arena opening? Including (if the rumors are true) a hotel etc? The north stand expansion would take another 12-18 months I would imagine? Seems silly to wait when it could be done now?

Yeah dunno the reasons to be honest. Think things changed with covid then they decided to build the arena
