City’s New Kits

Is the kit supposed to be a 3rd kit? or is it used as a one off never to be seen again? I would probably prefer the 2nd scenario.

I kept thinking after they said Noel designed it, it looked like something he would take the piss out of.

If we wear it more than twice I'll be annoyed. Thinking being, there are 2 additional CL group games, so maybe they use that as an excuse for this.

Almost certain that we'll wear it at PSG. It might not work at Bratislava because there's too much blue on it, possibly at Sporting, don't think it'd work against Juventus. I hope that doesn't mean we'll be wearing it at home again. Sparta Prague looks prime for it in their colours.

That kit last night, if a small child sent that into a competion you would probably say a few nice words, thank the child for taking the time to try, then throw the design in the bin when they had gone home, got to be the worst kit we have ever worn?
Can't believe someone didn't have the bollocks to tell Noel to fuck right off with that rancid design

It's actually a similar style to some previous PSG home kits, but would work against the current one perhaps. All those games you mention are a possible certainly, but we've already got 3 very different kits that actually mean something to the club in terms of history. We really shouldn't be wearing this one again, there's no need. And it's shite.

I don't think we should wear it in those games, I just think we will. The club announced that it would be worn in "select European matches". I think they'll try to use it home and away whenever they can in this league stage of the Chimps League.

I wonder, if under the lights, the shirt on the new kit clashed with the refereeing team, I swear at one point in the second half we played a ball directly to the linesman!
Akanji has said just that. He got confused with the linesman and passed to him.

I would imagine it was like episodes of The Apprentice where they tell professional designers what they’d like and let them do it. John Squire was noted for his art. He painted the Roses designs on their records but Noel did not.

Oasis could have sponsored shirts back in the day but no more.

Just watched City women's highlights and it suited them better but was still not great

For years I used to think this picture was of a United game at Maine Road from when they played there looking at the colours of the kits, but it is a picture of City v Portsmouth in the FA Cup on 11th January 1936:

Looking at the kits, it looks like both team are in their away kits: City maroon shirts, white shorts, black socks; and Portsmouth white shirts, black shorts and socks.

Similar to the FA Cup final two years earlier but with us in black socks like the 1933 FA Cup final rather than the hooped socks of the 1934 final.

1933 final:

1934 final:

It looks like every decade from 1920s to now we’ve chosen to wear wear a 2nd/3rd/4th/alternative kit at home. Sometimes it’s a merchandise thing; sometimes it’s a manager/coach decision; sometimes it’s a cockup by an away team or a ref suggestion, but it’s happened. Often the colour chosen is red too! 1924 ‘lucky’ scarlet 1960s/70s red and black, 1980s red/black. Plus other colours over the last century or so.

Malcolm Allison even wanted us to use red/black as our home kit on a permanent basis at one point. Football & traditions are never as clear cut as some often think. More in my piece on it:
