City 2nd behind United on most followed English teams online

There are some complicated rules. Something like each slot has to show each team a minimum of twice and a maximum of six times (a slot being TNT 12:30 for example).

Social media has evolved from Facebook to TikTok via Instagram and now we have What'sApp Channels
What this survey doesn't do is to determine what the affect of the most recent iterations of social media, the ones used by the younger generation, has on the numbers
I did a quick check and City are the most followed on TikTok and What's App Channels its only if Instagram is included that the rags just beat City

The rags have 85M FaceBook followers with City lagging behind with 51M

I would argue that the most relevant numbers are with the newest app and not legacy ones like FB which the younger generation don't use

Threads is City 8.6M Rags 7.4M another indication of the newer the platform the more City have

UPDATE: Adding Twitter, Threads and FB

Does this study focus on Western social media? If you include China social media, City would wipe the floor with Liverpool.

Well, City winning TikTok and WhatsApp speaks for itself — the youth have chosen sky blue over the past decade.

This is not surprising in the slightest - these social media figures have been similar for a long time - just the English media ignores them.

The rest of the world watch the games, but are spared the garbage punditry of ex Red players telling us about games they played against each other 20 years ago and how huge each club is !

X isn't there.

The Scousers have a massive following in X. It's their go to social media platform. X keep on pushing Scouse shite to me. It's annoying as fuck.

We're miles behind the Rags on Instagram. I wonder why that is?

The only reason the scousers have a massive following on X is because that's the only platform they can spell.

I wonder why a social media network dominated by criminals, conspiracy theorists and fruitloops is so attractive to scousers

From MSN News:

16 Most Followed Football Clubs in England Ranked in New Study

Surprisingly, Manchester City are one place above Liverpool, with 179.5m social media followers. Pep Guardiola's side became one of the most dominant teams in the history of English football following the former Barcelona manager's arrival and that form has seen them become one of the most followed teams in the country. They've got a long way to go before they catch up to their local rivals, though. Manchester United, despite all their struggles lately, are by far the most followed team in England, with 233.6m social media followers.
I think the original data was published by the CIES Football Observatory https://football-observatory.com/WeeklyPost508 (a Swiss based research group). There's more data here than was picked up by other websites. The link is useful in showing that Manchester City are a bigger club than Liverpool, Arsenal etc. How 'big' a club is is endlessly argued about but social media weighting is one way to measure the influence of a club.
