City 3 - 1 Barcelona - Post match thread :-)

We did it again last night for 38 minutes, with a number of players looking like they felt it was enough to just be on the same pitch as them, but Gundogan's goal woke us up, and the minute we went toe to toe with them, we saw they were just ordinary beings. The final hour last night was as much a statement to ourselves as it was the rest of europe, we can compete with them, and we finally believed it.

Yes Yes and yes, brilliant performance.

I agree with this. Wonderful when he's on the ball, but for some reason he feels he can wait until the team give him the ball. Was very static last night and it made it easier to deal with him. 2nd half it was Neymar that was giving the problems, not Messi.

Obviously one of the most skilful players ever, but you still have to work, and yesterday he didn't.

Pep has spoken at length about one of Messi's great qualities is his ability to stand still and then boom be off just when the defender thinks they have him covered. Once he loses that quick injection of pace that he is able to produce he wont be anywhere near as effective as he is, its why I hope we dont sign him in a couple of years on stupid money, when he might look for a move somewhere. It wouldnt be anything like Chelsea signing an aging Zola who didnt rely on pace to do his thing.

I think that last night the supply to their front 3 was severely reduced in the second half, none of their much heralded MSN did much after the break and it had little to do with effort for me.

Watch the goal again, the quick burst of speed once he realised Naymar had passed was impressive and he also knew when the keeper had committed so he could work around him... no doubt about his quality.

He is even allowed to touch referees

Dont need to watch it again, I agree totally, what I said is once he loses that ability to get off the mark so quick he wont be as effective as he currently is, thus me not wanting us to sign him when his legs are going at the tail end of his career.

What I want to know is, are we still ruining football, or if not, when was the precise moment that we stopped?

I had mixed emotions last night. On the one hand it was a feast for the eyes watching us boss the 'best team in the world' so completely as the BT commentary kept reminding us. On the other hand though I had to return my tickets as Mrs S was recovering from an op. I was gutted to have missed the game live - the atmosphere looked completely brilliant.

Kudos to the whole team, hard to pick out any individual as it was really such a great team effort. Was most pleased for Zab man, to put in that performance was a wonderful reminder of what we have been missing. Pep seems to have imbued the team with renewed energy the last couple of games. Brilliant to see and it will only get better. Next step is to be able to replicate that performance consistently no matter who the oposition is. Starting with Middlesboro on Saturday. Just wish Pep would get rid of that bloody cough - it's was back last night.

I wasn't arguing.... trying to agree badly it seems. I think the Messi to City ship has sailed now, I wanted to say at one time that we had Messi in our team but we have some amazing talents and more coming (Jesus) so onwards and upwards I say

Petulance wasn't something I expected from Messi and moaning about a handball (if true) is bollocks considering Kun's arms were by his side
