City accounts on bluesky

Just so people are aware, the current Manchester City account on Bluesky isn't genuine. They started off ok but have now put posts out asking people to 'donate' and linking to a PayPal account.

Everyone here who is on the platform should report the account as misleading or misrepresenting. I have just done so.

Right I’ve signed up let’s hope it’s better than that shit show by Musk.

Once big social accounts start moving I expect an avalanche and X collapsing.

But surely it'll never be massively popular if, it only caters for half the population as such?

I think you're underestimating how many people of all political persuasions just want a platform that doesn't promote extremist wankers and misinformation at every turn. Maybe one that has vaguely sensible user agreements and moderation designed to create a minimum level of civility. I don't know if Bluesky is that (I'm not joining, because it's a waste of time), but I know that when I was on Twitter, I was just as bored of all of the extremist twats on 'my side' who were being pushed in my direction.

Twitter was originally mostly that half of the population. It was people into current affairs and quality journalism. It became the place for breaking news. Then got massively popular.

It's possible nothing will be as popular and effective for news again as there are already established alternatives like mastodon and threads and Twitter has been hemorrhaging users since Musk took over. And more people are I to video shorts now that are on tick tock but also utube and Facebook.

But one thing is undeniable, Twitter is in massive decline. Its awful now and with big institutional accounts going its only getting worse.

Not long before most clubs and businesses make the switch, there is no engagement on X that is beneficial to them that can't be done elsewhere.

Just in the process of deleting my X posts, so thought I'd take a look at a couple of City posts this morning. Combined they had about 125 replies and I reckon maybe just the 1 post was a legitimate response and not a bot or for bait engagement.

People look at the blanket numbers and say Bluesky can't compete but actual human engagement per post is way higher. That's why journalists have had no issue making the switch. Less followers but way more interaction.
Even for advertisers. I was listening Richard Osman's podcast and one thing he brought up was that if you've got a mailing list of 9000 people, you are far more valuable to advertisers that someone who can get half a million people to view their website. You might find that advertisers are less likely to spend their money on the platforms these days and instead are going straight to the content creators themselves, because they have some credibility with their audiences.

Yes. They seem to have removed the PayPal links on the posts now, probably trying to sucker more people in before trying again. The other clue on there is that they have spelt stadium wrongly in the header.
And I can't imagine the genuine City account saying 'Northern Manchester' in their profile. At least not without a comma between them.

Isn’t it freedom of speech to post where you want?

Some might say that Bluesky has better freedom of speech as you aren’t marginalised by an algorithm or if you pay.

That’s before trying to work out if you are conversing with a human or a bot.
Careful, your country jails people who believe in free speech.

So does ours really.. haven't you seen what happens to the ones who speak out against Israel?

Btw bluesky can't be all that terrible.. even Natalie's on it and she's a really good judge of character:
