City appoint new set-piece coach

Most of the time there is only 1 opposing player in front of the 2 City players. The corner get's crossed most of the time. I would rather have KDB or Foden on the edge of the box waiting to pickup any clearances rather having one of them stood at the corner flag doing nothing. It's a waste of a player.

It pulls someone out of their box, usually ant the front post, and short corners are statistically more likely to result in goals - defending multiple phases from a set piece is much more difficult than one direct corner.

People on here know that we score the most goals from corners in the league - overall and adjusted per corner- so I really don’t understand why people still try to pretend we’re not good at them and the club is run by idiots making it up as they go along.

Not sure what is going on with the defense this season.

I would have thought a new defensive coach would be a priority.

The players playing poorly in defense, are Title winners and have been assured in previous seasons. Now they look all over the show.

Even in the games we have won there have been terrible defensive lapses.

I think our attacking play is causing our defensive issues. We're looking to find Haaland quickly and rushing our attacking play at times. Our defence is solid when we control the game. When we're playing at break neck speed and trying to swing the ball into Haaland or play him through we're stretching ourselves too and leaving ourselves exposed.

Injuries, loss of form, several different partnerships at centre half. All are going to have a huge impact on defending. Even more so on set pieces.

Since Pep arrived we have consistently been both close to the top for scoring off set pieces and close to top for least conceded. It doesn't feel that way because we take 100 corners a game and it seems like we concede every so often but its the truth.

I think missing Walkers pace is a big problem for our defense.

Strikers can be defenders, but, not the other way around...who said this?

shows a lack of respect for the position in my honest opinion.

We were always going to lose some control when we stopped using the false 9, and that was always going to make us more vulnerable defensively. The question is will the goals scored by Haaland counter the ones conceded because of that vulnerability.
Peps job is to get the balance right so that it does, obviously that will take time, and with playing every 3 days and now a world cup time to work on the training gound has been limited, I doubt we’ll really get the balance right until next season.
